Show Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues, November 16-19, 2019 C-5 The Park Record More than 5,000 donors drove this year’s Live PC Give PC event to a record finish $2.4 million raised for 117 nonprofits SCOTT IWASAKI The Park Record The ninth annual Live PC Give PC day of giving, held Friday, Nov., 8, by the Park City Community Foundation, surpassed its goal of 5,102 donors raising $2,464,717 for 117 local nonprofits, says Ollie Wilder, community impact director. The number of this year’s donors increased by 312, and the dollar amount came in at more than $40,000 more than last year, Wilder said. “It was an incredible event, and we were extremely encouraged to see the community rise to the occasion once again to show their support for nonprofits,” Wilder said. “So many community members became donors, and gave substantial amounts.” Most of the donations came in toward the end of the day, he said. “Throughout the day we started to wonder if we were going to reach our goals,” he said. “So it was very heartening to see that more people are now hearing about Live PC Give PC and are willing to stand up and be counted.” Every Live PC Give PC features six leaderboards, which are friendly competitions where nonprofits receive bonuses paid by the Park City Community Foundation for getting the most donors, Wilder said. The leaderboard categories were All-Nonprofits, Caring for Each Other, Energizing and Enlivening, Keep on Moving, Protecting Where We Play and Sparking Minds. The firs5 place winner for the All-Nonprofits Leader board received $2,500, while the second and third place receive $1,500 and $1,250 respectively, according to Wilder. Mountain Trails Foundation took first in the All-Nonprofits Leaderboard. The crowd cheered as donations for 117 local nonprofits were tallied up during the celebration. More than 5,000 donors gave a total of $2,464,717 this year. “They received 995 donations, which is nearly one-fifth of the total donors that gave during Live PC Give PC,” Wilder said. The first, second and third place winners for the other categories respectively received $1,250, $750 and $500, he said. These organizations do a great job of making this community a great place to live, work and play...” Ollie Wilder, Park City Community Foundation community impact director Other first placers were Peace House for the Caring for Each Other Leaderboard, KPCW Radio for Energizing and Enlivening Leaderboard, Youth Sports Alliance for Keep On Moving Leaderboard, Recycle Utah for Protecting Where We Play Leaderboard and EATS Park City for Sparking Minds Leaderboard. There were some surprises in the All-Nonprofit Leaderboard race, because Summit Land Conservancy and Nuzzles & Co. tied for third place, Wilder said. “So we paid an extra thirdplace prize,” he said. “Because both nonprofits worked hard and they were in such close competition, we had to honor them.” Donors also helped two new nonprofits — Lucky Project and Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation — make a splash during this years event, according to Wilder. Both took second place in their categories, which were Caring for Each Other and Sparking Minds, respectively, he said. Lucky Project, which is known for the Lucky Ones Coffee shop at the Park City Library, converted to nonprofit status this year, and garnered 323 donors, while the Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation received 243 donors, Wilder said. The Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation is interested in supporting dyslexia and other learning differences for students in college, he said. The foundation is named after Park City High School graduate Joseph James Mo- K T E L G R A I B A S S P E A A D M D O E S D O N H S R T A Q S T P H E I D R A R E I S A A M E T P R E S S W A K B A M O O N A D O S A T S K Y L I K E S O U T E C H A I R B E D S R I C C E N R O I N N E E S S E N L M A A B B O G R A S S N A R L E E N N O A T N L E A R O L F C O O L L A R K S L E S S M M E E T E N O O W S O N R O L L E E R E A N E R I N D I G O S D O R K Y D V O R A K A O R R Y U G V E O E Y Y E A L I L K T E E S B B E E E S S L A T A U R U M S I S I T O D L E A L A F D E E P I S U R C T R I A O O M M O S N C H W H O E H A W V I N E N D N N E E Y I N R R I S E E M V S S P E K A N E A L E M A K I N G A S T I N K relli, who was diagnosed with dyslexia. Morelli was pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering at Montana State University when he was killed in a 2014 car accident. “Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation originally started as the Park City Community Foundation’s Joseph James Morelli Scholarship Fund, before spinning off into its own nonprofit,” Wilder said. “That gives them more flexibility to offer more than just scholarships. They also support students in college who may have gotten a scholarship, but need accommodations.” The success of this year’s day of fundraising goes to the participating nonprofits, Wilder said. “While Park City Community Foundation is proud to host and organize the event, the nonprofits were the ones who were actually out there rallying folks to make a statement and support important causes in the community,” he said. “These organizations do a great job of making this community a great place to live, work and play.” E S S A Y S JOIN US THIS FALL !
