Baumann led a staunch defensive effort for the Miners, limiting Snow Canyon’s offense to just 10 points in the victory. He then hammered the pick down by rushing for 11 yards on his next two carries, running out the clock and ensuring Park City’s berth in the state semifinals for the second consecutive season. “I just knew I had to come back from that fumble, terrible time for that,” Bauer said. “But at the end of the game, I knew I had to get those yards to give my team a chance. I had to get my team back in it and we did it.” With the offense doing just enough, it once again fell on the defense’s shoulders to get the win. And like they’ve performed all season long, senior Brady Baumann and his crew came to play. After the Miners took the 14-10 lead following their first drive of the second half, it came down to Baumann and fellow seniors Ray Rivera and Chase Johansen to make the plays needed. Using a “bend but don’t break” style of play, the Miners were fine with trading field goals for touchdowns, allowing the Warriors to drive down the field but not reach the end zone. “This feels good, so good for us,” Rivera said. “We relied on each other, we all have faith in each one of us to do their job. … Tonight we trusted the guy next to us to get the job done.” With their back against the wall twice late in the fourth quarter, the Miners got stops on fourth down, preventing Snow Canyon from scoring. On fourth-and-three from the Park City 12, Baumann drilled Warriors quarterback Landon Frei as he released the ball, causing the ball to be off target and land incomplete. “With the teams down south, they’re big-play teams and tonight we did a good job of stopping that,” Baumann said. “Each guy on the defense knew what their job was and then went out and did it, and that speaks a lot to who we are. We were ready for tonight and now, we’ll go and get ready for next week.” With the win, the Miners now get the opportunity to return to Rice-Eccles Stadium, the same place they saw their season end last year. Park City will face No. 5 Pine View, a 43-36 winner over No. 4 Green Canyon, on Thursday night at 6 p.m. “We knew we had a fight on our hands, watched them on film and thought, ‘Oh my goodness’,” Montzingo said. “We wanted to earn getting there and we can definitely say we did that.” Preparing for Pine View In what will be the toughest test to date for Park City, the Miners will face No. 5 Pine View and its high octane of- Scoring 1st period PC – Griffin (Fisher, Jeffrey) 2nd period PC – Jeffrey (Bynan) PC – Skeffington (Blaszak) PC – Lippman (Griffin) PC – Burnette (Bratcher) 3rd period PC – Blaszak (Hopkins, Stevens) PC – Griffin (Jeffrey) PC – Skeffington (Torrey) PC – Mazzone (Blaszak) Standings No. Utah Farmington UCI-North Park City SL Stars Murray Uintah Herriman UCI-South Oquirrh Skyline Bountiful Viewmont Brighton Bingham W 4 3 3 3 2 2 1 2 2 1 1 1 0 0 0 L 1 0 0 0 1 2 0 1 2 1 3 3 4 3 4 T Pts 0 8 1 7 1 7 0 6 1 5 1 5 0 4 0 4 0 4 2 4 0 2 0 2 1 1 0 0 0 0 Swimming Polar Bear Plunge Park City, Cottonwood @ Brighton Results – November 7 Time Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay 1. Pine View (9-2, 7-0 Region 9), who is on a nine-game wining streak, enters the matchup with one of the best offenses in the state by averaging 45.2 points per game. During the winning streak, Pine View took down Snow Canyon 4531 two months ago and defeated No. 8 Green Canyon 43-36 last week. “Down south they throw the ball, and that’s exactly what we are going to get on Thursday,” Baumann said. “The experience we got last week against a spread offense will help us a lot this week. They’re a bigplay offense so we are going to keep working on that and we’ll be good.” Senior quarterback Macloud Crowton directs a spread offense, in which he’s thrown for 3,910 yards (tops in the state) and 45 touchdowns on the season. His primary targets are senior wide receivers Izaiah Moten and Daylor Rymer, who’ve combined for 1,994 yards receiving and 28 touchdowns on the year while fellow senior Michael Moore has nine touchdowns and 797 yards receiving. On the ground, junior Enoch Takau and senior Jacob Nobili have combined for 949 yards rushing and nine scores. “It just gets harder now,” Montzingo said. “Pine View is amazing. They have the top offense, Crowton is phenomenal and will be by far the best quarterback we’ll see this year. His dad is quite the coordinator so we have a challenge ahead of us that is quite large, however we’re going to play our ball. The next opponent is the next opponent and we’re just going to have to go to work.” Takau and senior Filipo Tavita anchor the defense with a combined 27 tackles for loss while Moten and Rymer have combined for 15 interceptions on the season.
