Show A4 The Emery County Review, Tuesday, November 4, 2008 Agreement for Green River Industrial Park imminent Continued from Page A1. -est from companies, people who’ve just heard what we’re trying to put together. Even though we’re not complete and we have a lot of work to do, we’ve had a lot of, what I would call good leads. “This is interesting because although the national economy is struggling, we’re still getting inquiries. Actually, I’ve had three new inquiries just this week. I did lose one project because the economy had gone bad nationally, but within a couple hours I had gotten more phone calls,” he revealed. The county initially approached SITLA with interest in the project in June of 2007 and after being turned down, made necessary changes and resubmitted the proposal in December of 2007. Though McCandless admits the process has been long, he is pleased with the final product. “It’s taken this long to come up with a document that both of us actually felt like what that letter of intent should,” he explained. “It’s been a long process, and I think both sides have gotten what they want out of it. Even though it’s slow, I think it’s the way to do things. I’d much rather have a document that’s right than a document that’s fast.” Christmas tree permits go on sale Nov. 17 Christmas tree permits for the Ferron/Price Ranger District will be sold to the public beginning Nov. 17. The tags will be sold for $5 each. There is a limited quantity of tags available; tags will be sold on a firstcome first-served basis. A family may purchase only one permit in their name. Tags will not be available by mail. You can obtain your permit at the following offices: Ferron/Price Ranger District, 115 West Canyon Road, Ferron, 435-384-2372; or the Price Supervisor’s Office, 599 West Price River Drive, Price, 435-637-2817. A tree may be cut anywhere on the Ferron/Price Ranger District, except for Huntington Canyon and Straight Canyon, in campgrounds, and timber sale areas. Trees may not be cut within 100 feet of roads. Many aspen stands are being replaced by conifers. To slow this process, conifer removal from within aspen stands is encouraged. People must be familiar with tree species because it is il- legal to cut a spruce or ponderosa pine. The public is cautioned that the roads may be snow packed and slick, and may not be maintained at all. Depending on snowfall, some areas may only be accessible by snow machines, ATVs, skis, or on foot. The Forest Service had proposed to increase the cost of tree permits from $5 to $10 this year, however, the proposed increase has been delayed until November 2009. The official comment period for this fee increase proposal is Nov. 3 – Dec. 15. If you would like to comment on the proposed fee increase, please address your comment to: Christmas Tree Fee Proposal, attn: E. Alexander, 599 W. Price River Drive, Price, UT 84501. Cutting a Christmas tree is a holiday tradition for most people. Everyone is asked to follow safety rules for cold weather and make your tree cutting a wonderful adventure. Emery teams struggle at state tournaments Spartan Football against Park City in the first round of the state football playoffs 41-7. The team fought to stay in the game, but they were outmatched by a very athletic Park City squad. Emery put up just 151 yards of total offense, compared to 492 by Park City. Though the Spartans forced the miners to turn the ball over four times, it was a disappointing game for the Emery team who had hoped to make pull off the upset. Already missing defensive stopper Derrick Allred, the team lost Josey Johnson to a knee injury during the game, along with injuries to JT Noyes and Dusty Jensen. Lady Spartan Volleyball The state volleyball tournament, held at Utah Valley University, ended more quickly for the Spartans than they had hoped. The Emery volleyball team was swept out of the double-elimination tournament, losing their games against the Morgan Trojans and Wasatch Wasps. The Trojans made quick work of the Spartans, dispatching the team 11-25, 16-25 and 14-25. The duel with Wasatch in the consolation bracket was only slightly closer, 13-25, 18-25 and 14-25. End of season wrap-ups for both teams will appear in the next issue of The Emery County Review. Jones Hardware The helpful place. Your Supply Headquarters •Fishing•Vacation •Camping•R.V. Main, Huntington Record striper caught at Lake Powell Wayne Gustaveson Evan Coleman of Page Ariz., was on a houseboat trip the weekend of Oct. 11 at Padre Bay, Lake Powell. While riding the wave runner, exploring the bay he came upon a large striper flopping on the surface. Upon examination he found a carp lodged in the stripers throat which was the cause of the discomfort and eventual death of the trophy fish. Evan loaded the huge striper on his wave runner and transported it back to the houseboat. That must have been quite a sight to see a striper taking a trip on a wave runner. Wonder if it had a license since it was probably only 10-12 years old? The striper measured 47 inches in length and weighed 41 pounds on certified scales. This is the largest fish to come from Lake Powell this year. There was a 36 pound fish caught on hook and line by Robert Adele of Greenehaven, Ariz., on July 5. The water temperature of the lake has dropped into the 60s, which is the preferred temperature range of striped bass and may account for increased feeding activity of trophy fish during October.
