Show C4 The Emery County Review, Tuesday, August 5, 2008 EVENTS Castle VAlley Pageant Pageant Offers Glimpse into Pioneer Past The Castle Valley Pageant will continue through Aug. 9, with performances beginning at 8:30 p.m. each night. The Castle Valley Pageant tells the story of the early settlers to Castle Valley. It also tells of the homesteaders as they struggle to build a life in the rugged environment. Directed by Church of Latter-Day Saints President Brigham Young to homestead the area, the pageant offers visitors a glimpse into pioneer heritage. Held on a hill overlooking Emery County, visitors can reach the pageant site by turning west on SR-29 towards Orangeville and following the signs to the pageant site. The Pioneer Village is open nightly from 6:30 to 8:15, where you can sample pioneer life and see demonstrations on everything from Dutch oven cooking to rope making. Coinciding with the pageant will be a lamb fry at the Castle Dale Fairgrounds each night during the pageant dates from 5 to 8. Helper Ferron Peach Days Approaching Ferron Peach Days will be held Sept. 2-6. A schedule of events for the local favorite includes the following: Tuesday, Sept. 2 Race Draw – 6 p.m. – Fairgrounds Parade your Pet - Pet show at the Mayor’s Park at 6 p.m. Open to youth of all ages and their pets. Pick up an entry form at City Hall. Wednesday, Sept. 3 Bike Ride – 6 p.m. Exhibits accepted at City Hall from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4 Floral exhibits and baked or cooked items due at City Hall by 10 a.m. Contact Paula at 384-3282. Talent Show – 7 p.m. at the Mayor’s Park. Friday, Sept. 5 Exhibits on display at City Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dinner and Entertainment in the Park – Fundraiser dinner at the Fairground Park from 6 - 8 p.m. Fireworks – 8:30 p.m. at Millsite Reservoir. Saturday, Sept. 6 Breakfast – 7 – 10 a.m. at the Old Church Park. Fun Run – 7 a.m. at the Old Church Park. All day Golf Tournament Scramble at Millsite Golf Course. Exhibits on display at City Hall from noon to 5 p.m. Horse Races – Races will begin promptly at 1 p.m. at the Fairgrounds. Demolition Derby following the Races at approximately 6 p.m. Dance immediately following the Derby in the Multi Purpose Building at the Fairgrounds. Ticket Price to enter the Fairgrounds will be $5 per person or $20 per family and will admit you to the Races, Derby and Dance. No alcohol is sold or allowed on city property; please do not bring carry-in coolers. Downtown Helper becomes an outdoor art gallery during the Helper Arts Festival. Helper Arts Festival, Aug. 15-17 The Helper Arts Festival will be held in the historic town of Helper Aug.15-17 as downtown Helper gives way to become a huge outdoor art gallery with local art vendors, painters, musicians, vocalists and sculptors. There will be activities for children and live art demonstrations. The grand opening of Aset’s Ultimate Airbrush Art Gallery will be held during the festival and there will be the premiere of The Adventures of Power, an independent film from Sundance Film Festival that was shot in Helper. The popular Helper Idol competition will also take place on Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. (a preliminary round of Helper Idol will take place on Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Carbon County Fair. Food Handler’s Class San Rafael Jr. High Registration The College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum Gallery is presenting Images of the San Rafael by Stephanie Massie Clark through Sept. 30. The artist’s inspiration for the watercolors in the show came from the ancient rock art found at Buckhorn Wash, the Rochester Panel, Nine Mile and Sinbad. Clark’s work can be viewed at the museum’s second floor gallery. General admission fees apply Out ‘N’ About Emery High Registration Registration for the 2008-09 school year at Emery High will be held as follows: Seniors: Two dates have been set up for seniors. You need attend only one of the two. They are Thursday, Aug. 7, and Monday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon for last names beginning A-L and noon to 3 p.m. for last names beginning M-Z. Seniors interested in either work study or internship programs must meet with the WBL coordinator, school counselor and parent on the day of registration. These programs are just for seniors who have completed 20 high school credits. Work study students need to secure a job prior to the beginning of first quarter. Seniors interest in registering for CEU-EdNet classes will need to meet with Dixie Fielder, counselor. These classes begin Aug. 18. Juniors: Registration will be Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 9 a.m. to noon for last names beginning A-L and noon to 3 p.m. for last names beginning M-Z. Sophomores: Registration will be Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon for last names beginning AL and noon to 3 p.m. for last names beginning M-Z. Registration Fees: Fees are $60 and must be paid at the time of registration. All other fees, including band, chorus, instrument rental, etc. must also be paid at the time of registration. However, sports participation fees will be due at the beginning of each sport and must be paid before a student-athlete is allowed to participate. Emery County Gun Club The Emery County Gun Club will hold a 100 target tournament (25 singles, 25 handicaps, and 50 doubles) on Aug. 8. After the shoot is over, we will draw two names at a time, winners will be the highest combined scores. Folk Art Festival The Museum of the San Rafael Junior High School will be holding their class registration on Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parents of San Rafael students will receive more information about registration in the mail. Farmers Market The Farmers Market will began July 26. The market will run each Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Images of the San Rafael A Food Handler’s class will be held at the Southeastern Utah Department of Health, 25 W Main Street, in Castle Dale. Classes will be Aug. 14, and Sept. 11, at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. For more information call 381-2252. Monumentally Important Emery Town is updating the Veteran’s Memorial Monument in the Emery Town Park. Please call the Emery Town Office at 286-2417 by Aug. 30 if you know of any veterans who need to be added, deleted or changed.
