MM, SH compete at season's first track meet Dave Boyack STAFF W R I T E R , ' Under cold, wet and windy conditions, the first outdoor track meet of the season was held at Salem Hills High School on March 8, 2010. Despite the conditions, many outstanding marks were produced. For the Sky hawks, first- place finishes came from Jake Skinner in the 110m hurdles in a time of 16.21 and the medley relay team in a time of 3:56. Trent Mortensen threw the shot 41'7" and Jordan Robles won the discus with a throw if 115*. For the Golden Eagles, first-place finishes came from Spencer Hanson in the 1600m in a time of 4:37. The Golden Eagles also won the 4x100m relay. Brent Strong finished first in the 400m in 52.7. Eddie Prothero placed first in the 300m hurdles. Jeff Brammer placed first in the 200m at 23.56. Parker Cressman was the high jump winner, while Jeff Brammer won the long jump at 19'8". Lou Crandall / The Sentinel Skyler Procaro won the javelin with a throw of 127'. Spencer Hanson won the 3200m, as did the boys 4 x400m relay. On the girls' side, first place winners for the Lady Skyhawks came from Siale Vaitohi in the 100m hurdles. Cosette Stone won the 1600m run in 5:37, while the Lady Skyhawk med- ley relay team placed first. Vaitohi also won the high jump at 4' 10", while Jo Julian won the long jump at 15'3". For the Lady Golden Eagles, first place finishes came from Dani Esplin in the 100m at 12.9 and the 4xl00m relay team in 51.6. Kelsie Hadlock placed first in the 800m at 2:34, while Haley Knapp won the 3200m. The Lady Eagle 4x400m relay team also placed first. Brinkerhoff is batting over .400 with six doubles and three triples (all three Dons are tied in that category) and two HRs. She said having the opportunity to play with some of your girlfriends from junior high and high school is a dream come true. "It is so much fun," said Brinkerhoff. "I love it be- cause we know each other so well as players and girls. It makes it so easy to talk to each other about things, but I also love all the girls. It's been a blast." Brinkerhoff hopes to advance her playing career for a D-l university and plans to study radiology. As for softball, this threesome is taking it one step at a time towards their goal of a national championship. The NJCAA division one national tournament will be held in St. George from May 20-22. SAM'S PREP OF THE WEEK Dezlee Roberts • Senior • Softball • Pitcher/1 st Base Dezlee Roberts is the daughter of Rick and Teresa Roberts of Spanish Fork. In the Lady Dons' opener at Olympus, Roberts went above and beyond, pitching 10 complete innings in SPs 3-2 victory over the Titans. The game went scoreless into extra innings after the seventh.
