The students chosen will now go on to the state competition in February. The categories and the students chosen are: Speech and Drama: Cassie Tobler is the daughter of Gregg and Sharon Tobler, Cassie says, "I love acting because it allows me to put myself in somebody else?s shoes." Her advice ; to 1 students who wish, to pursue drama is, "It's a lot of fun; it's something you have to work very hard at, but it's worth the reward." Cassie plans to pursue an opera musical theatre major at either Brigham Young University or Southern Utah University. i Katherine Hart Amanda Larsen Andew Haun Guardian of Your Community News Amberley Asay John Sommerfeld Dylan Lasson Whitney Moss Deson Haynie ! Mathematics: Jacob Embley is the son of Steve and Heidi Embley. Jacob enjoys math. He states, "I like solving complex problems using logic and intuitive thinking." His advice to math students is, "Make sure you know the basics before you move on to something more complex." Jacob also expresses that he loves math because he can apply the principles to solve real life problems. Visual Arts: Amanda Larsen is the daughter of Edward and Marian Larsen. When asked why she enjoys art, she replied, "I like being able to create whatever I want without breaking any rules." Amanda says, "Anyone can do it, you just need to be a little creative." Amanda would like to pursue an art major at Brigham Young University. Music: Katherine Hart is the daughter of Gus and Cynthia Hart. When asked what she likes about music, Katherine said, "Music is beautiful, fulfilling, and it makes me happy!" She advises students to practice a lot and enjoy music even though it's a lot of work. Katherine plans on. majoring in piano performance at Brigham Young University. Social Sciences: John Sommerfeld is the son of Scott and Lisa Sommerfeldt. John enjoys social sciences; he enjoys'•learning "about the way things work, how they worked in the past, and how to apply them to our own lives." John recommends that students read a lot of books and study more than you're told to. John would like to broaden his understanding of politics and the way history and government go hand in hand. Family and Consumer Science: Whitney Moss is the daughter of Ryan and Vickie Moss. Whitney loves to cook and sew. Her advice to students who are interested in this field is, "Try it out and see if you like it!" Her future goals are to have a family and be able to provide for them. Dance: Chantel Argyle is the daughter of Clint and Sherry Argyle. When asked what she liked about her area/Chantelsaid, "Oh dance, dance, dance! I love being able (to express-.myself." Her advice to future dancers is, "Don't give up, work hard, that's the key!" Trade and Technical Education: Andrew Haun is the son of Preston and Tammy Haun. What Andrew enjoys about the trades is, "I like doing everything hands on. It gives me experience that will be really helpful in college and in the future." Andrew's advice is, "Take advantage of the opportunities for leadership that come up. Volunteer for positions you feel comfortable with." Andrew would like to continue learning as much as he can about photography and video broadcasting. Business and Marketing: Amberley Asay is the daughter of Dwayne and Suzanne Asay. Amberley enjoys learning about business because it better prepares students for college and the real world. She says, "In business you get to work with many different people and you learn what people like. It's a people oriented subject." Her advice to business students is to figure out what areas they like the best and then pursue them. Amberley would like to pursue a career in public relations; hopefully, at Brigham Young University. English: Dylan Lasson is the daughter of Steven and Debbie Hymas. Dylan loves english and says, "I've always like it since elementary school, I especially loved reading." Dylan also encourages students to "read. The more books you read the better. Also, get used to taking practice essays." Science: Deson Haynie is1-the soa of .Derek and Allyson Haynie. Deson says about science, "It explains how our work works." Deson's advice to science students is, "You better like math!" Deson's future goals are to pursue a career in alternate energy.- Tad and Tammy Beck. He's taking five business classes this year, and has been in FBLA for three years and DECA for two years. He's served as SHHS FBLA president for the past two years and is an FBLA state officer. Zack has also won a gold medal in national FCCLA competition. He plans to major in human resource management at USU and then attend law school. Speech and Drama: Katelyn Unsworth is the daughter of Rod and Gina Unsworth. In addition to taking various theater classes in school, Katelyn has participated in community theater as well. She's currently in the advanced musical theater class at SHHS. In addition to acting, she would like to become a drama teacher, and also study English and business. Visual Arts: DeBryn Saunders is the daughter of Jana and Brad Saunders. She has taken art classes throughout her life, both in and out of school, and has participated in various art competitions. Her favorite medium is acrylic. She hopes to have a career in art, painting murals or illustrating. She has already illustrated a children's book, which she hopes to get published. Dance: Sammi Magoffin is the daughter of Darin and Tracie Magoffin. She has been dancing since age 4 and studied at Lifehouse Performing Arts Academy in Payson for 10 years. As a member of Dance Company at SHHS she has discovered modern dance, which she says is her passion. She plans to continue dancing in college while she gets a teaching degree and hopes to one day be a dance teacher. English: Natalie Cheney is the daughter of Paul and Joni Cheney. Over the summer she did some editing for an electric company's website. This was her intro- . duction to technical writing, which she wants to major in at USU. Natalie is a Nation- al Merit Semi-finalist and studied Latin for five years in Virginia before moving here two years ago. Music: Nate Adams is the son of Newt and Becky Adams. He. started playing piano at age 8 and picked up the guitar at age 12. He played percussion last year in the SHHS marching band and was a co-drum major this year. He has been composing and arranging music since 8th grade. He plans to attend Snow College for at least a year before his mission and try out to play guitar in their jazz band. employees. She also works as a veterinary technician at Nebo Animal Clinic. Chaleesa has served in leadership positions all four years she's been a member of FFA and plans to run for state office next year. She wants to study agricultural education and become and agriculture teacher. Dance: Kambrielle Shenk is the daughter of Joe and Lori Shenk. A member of Dance Company and drill team, Kambri stays busy as student body vice president, a member of the swim team and many clubs at SFHS. She maintains a 3.9 GPA. English: Kayla Christensen is the daughter of Kay and Karla Christensen. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA since junior high and last year had an article pub- lished in "Teen Impact" magazine. Kayla is also a Jr. Miss Representative for the Spanish Fork/Salem area. She will finish a cosmetology degree at MATC in October and then plans to attend SUU, majoring in elementary education and minoring in dance. Family and Consumer Science: Amberly Larsen. She plans to attend USU as a pre-dental student, with the eventual goal of becoming an oral surgeon. Business and Marketing: Zack Beck is the son of MVP SPORTS IS PROUD TO SPONSOR TOP DON HONORING EXCELLENCE AT SFHS Shideler Bennett Junior Shideler Bennett is the son of Mike and Cathy Bennett of Spanish Fork. His favorite classes include chemistry, seminary and government. Shideler plays baseball for the Dons and is also a member of the volleyball and ping-pong clubs. In his free time he likes to play sports, and hang out with friends and family. On a road trip, Shideler would visit all of the country's baseball parks, and would listen to country and hip hop. SFHS: From SF • B l ation she plans to attend BYU. Trade and Technical Education: Chaleesa Warren is the daughter of Chad and Colleen Warren. For four years she has run her own pumpkin patch and corn maze in Mapleton, learning to run her own business and manage 72 N.
