Secondly, he challenged sports and competition teams to be good hosts and make sure that Maple Mountain is known for outstanding sportsmanship. His third challenge was to respect and care for the physical facilities of the school. He explained that the building cost $36 million to build, while others in the state cost $60 million. He encouraged students and community members to take pride in the building and keep it looking new for decades to come. Lastly, Sorensen challenged the student body to "have fun, enjoy and make the very best of [their] time here at Maple Mountain High School." J. Collin Allan of the Nebo School Board echoed Sorensen's plea for academic excellence. "We need that — that should be our constant expectation," he said. Allan said he was impressed with the patriotism of the students at MMHS, and said that these youth represent the future of America. "They need to learn how lo be wise," he said. "We need a rebirth in our nation and to remember that sacrifice and hard work are what make this nation and what will keep us a free nation." He encouraged students to remember their roots and their heritage as they prepare for the future. Allan then offered the dedicatory prayer, dedicating the building and surrounding facilities to the education of students. Following the dedicatory prayer, Penrod and Dave Anderson, of Hogan Construction, presented special awards and recognition to the many individuals and groups who helped the school become a reality.
