Show News m A10 • WEDNESDAY, MAY 27, 2009 TSPANISH FORK Covering what matters most SALEM: At the Salem Cemetery services were held the morning of Memorial Day, May 25 at 8 a.m. Those who attended witnessed the raising of the flags and a gun salute. Salem City Royalty sang The Star Spangled Banner and Richard Banks, a veteran and prisoner of war during World War II, right, spoke of some of his experiences and recited a poem. Michelle Crisp sang God Bless America, inviting the audience to join her on the second go-round. Throughout Benjamin, Salem and Spanish Fork the sunrise graced the morning of Memorial Day, greeting the graves of those gone on before — the family, friends and' veterans of a free country. Each city held services to honor the dead, all including a flag raising and gun salute courtesy of American Legion Post 68. BENJAMIN: The services at the Benjamin Cemetery were short and sweet, with the raising of the flag and the gun salute at 9 a.m. A small patch of grass in the cemetery was lined with the flags and markers of veterans of many different wars, including the Civil War, that now iie in the Benjamin Cemetery, each cross adorned with a symbolic crepe-paper poppy.
