On May 20 at their Quarterly Meeting, the Spanish Fork-Salem Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed the future governor of the state, Gary Herbert and Utah County Commissioner Larry Ellertson. The visit of the lieutenant governor was made possible by his long time friend, local businessman and chamber board member, Randy Brailsford who introduced the future governor as a man of dedication and commitment who would be the first Utah governor from Utah CountyHerbert said that he has •enjoyed a good partnership with Governor Huntsman and that the top issue they both have addressed over the years together is growing Utah's economy. "Local government is where the rubber hits the road. The chamber of commerce is so good at bringing people together and creating synergism. The private sector is where it happens, and what government needs to do is stay off your backs and out of your wallets," said Lt. Governor Herbert. He went on to say that capitalism is a great blessing, and freedom in the marketplace is its best vehicle. He shared a good report card for the state, citing that recently Utah was recognized as the bestmanaged state in America. Forbes 500 Magazine had Utah tied with Virginia as the best place to do business. The state has a lower unemployment rate than .most of the rest of the nation, and home foreclosures are way below neighboring states, such as Nevada and Arizona. "This is the best state in America, with the youngest population and there is a lot to be optimistic about," said the Herbert. Herbert spoke of the call he received about becoming Utah's new governor. Governor Hunts- man was on the phone and a short list for his replacesaid, "Gary, are you sitting ment as lieutenant goverdown?"
