The Lady Dons returned the Robinson complex as fa- vorites in 5 A to defend their state title and did not disappoint. They won the state crown, scoring 105 points — 16 points ahead of second place Davis. The Lady Dons were once again led by the duo of Natalie and Nachelle Stewart. If they awarded a meet MVP it would go to Natalie Stewart. Natalie finished the day as the state champion in all three races that she was in. Natalie dominated the short distance races by winning the )00m, 200m and the 400m sprints. Natalie started the day taking the 100m in a time of 11.99, which tied the state meet record. She ended her day in what she felt was her best race, winning the 400m with a time of 54.27. Sandwiched in there was another stellar performance in the 200m with a time of 24.56. Tickets are $7. Nine young ladies will vie for the Miss Spanish Fork crown. The Spanish Fork Water Park will be opening for pre-scason hours on May 24. The official opening day will be May 31 at 1 p.m. This year, the water park has a new filtering system to help clean the water. According to Spanish Fork Assistant City Manager, Seth Perrins, the filtering system runs water through a chamber where it is exposed to ultraviolet light. The UV light alters and denatures proteins and other impurities in the water, rendering them unable to replicate. This helps prevent the spread of diseases and parasites such as the Cryptosporidium (crypto) that infected many Utah pools last year. Our best of area survey is on A8 in this week's paper. Completed surveys are due to J-Mart, 280 North Main St., Spanish Fork, by 6 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2008. Everyone who completes a survey will be entered in a prize drawing. Results will be published in a special section in June. 1 nt Marilyn Nielson STAFF WRITER Although this new system will do a lot to make pool water safe and clean, Perrins said it is important to remember that any disease can spread through water just like through air, and no filter will kill things instantly. "If you are sick, just don't come to the pool,1' said Perrins. "Just like you stay home from school or Keisey Hall / Spanish Fork News ARE YOU SURE THIS WATER'S SANITARY? Spanish Fork's Water Park has undergone some changes to combat the spread of diseases like Cryptosporidium. church when you are sick, people need to stay home from public pools so they don't make others sick too." Patrons of the water park are also asked to stay home from the pool if they have had diarrhea any time within the last two weeks. "The best way to get avoid any problem like the crypto is just to keep it out of the pool in the first place," said Perrins. "That means people taking responsibility to do things like take showers before getting in the pool and staying home when they've been sick." The water park has changed its rates to admit all children age three and under for free. However, swim diapers will be required for these ages. Swim diapers will be available for sale at the pool, or you can bring your own. All pa- trons will also be required to shower before entering the pool. Because the pools were restricted due to Health Department regulations last year, the Spanish Fork Water Park will also be honoring the 2007 Punch Pass through June 30, 2008.
