Show March 17, 2011 The Garfield County Insider LEGAL MICE% BRYCE VALLEY SCHOOL NEWS by Vicki D. Syrett. . . . I want to thank Cheryl Le Fevre and Gayle Moore with their help in getting the school news rounded up. It sure is a help. Third term ends on March 18th. Already getting into the fourth term. Wow. The State Forensics team (Debate/Speech) did very well in State competition. Mrs. Kaye Lynn Nielson was very proud of them for their efforts. The 7th and 8th graders will be going snow shoeing at Bryce with Mr. Suggett the Science Teacher as part of their science work. They will also be working with Mrs. Marilyn Bulkley who does a lot of good things for our school children. The FFA team went to Logan to participate in the State FFA Convention. There were eleven students from Bryce Valley High School and thirteen students from Panguitch High School. Layne Le Fevre and Ralph Perkins were the teachers that went along with them on this great trip. They spent three days in Logan and got to go Ice Skating on the Olympic Oval.. Most of them for the first time on Ice Skates. It was a great opportunity for them and everyone had a lot of fun. Our basketball season it over for this year but we want all players, boys and girls, to know we are so proud of them. Topping off the season was the All Star 1 A vs 2A Basketball Tournament in Monroe at South Sevier High School. Kace Roundy was chosen as the 1 A MVP on the boy's team and Ashley Nelson won the three point shooting and foul shooting for the girls. Thank you Coaches Eric Jessen, Gary Syrett, Tyson Brinkerhoff, Bart Palmer, and all the teams for a good year. Coming up next is Track with Crystal Mortensen as coach and Golf with Shawn Williams as coach. The Character Theme in the Elementary for this month is Respect and Keeping the Rules. The Grand Staircase National Monument folks came to the school to talk about the 40 foot alligator bones found at the Grovesner's Arch. They did the unveiling on March 9th and held an assembly at the Bryce Valley Schools showing various displays, fossils, and photographs. Hopefully there will be more details later on this particular find.
