Show 171 . PANGUITCH.c. It's Sunday evening and watching the weather news we could be in for some big time moisture. Many places in California are getting blasted with a years worth of rain in 3 days. Many of the areas have already got 6" or more of rain, in a very short time. Each inch of rain translates into a foot of snow. By the time this issue gets to you, we will all know how much shoveling there was. The last great storm a couple of weeks ago fizzled out, with very little snow and a whole lot of cold weather. Dora Galvin reported that last Thursday Christmas dinner at the Senior Citizens Center, they served 96 meals all total, The meal was ever so good, and there was so much food and they even had entertainment The Center will be close for lunch till after the first of January. They serve lunch for senior's year around with the exception of a week at Thanksgiving time and two weeks at Christmas. Gosh I can't say enough how good the food is that is prepared by these four young women. It is served on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and the cost is a $2.50 contribution. On the 1st of January there will be a celebration of Jake Bagnell's 90th birthday. It will be held at the Senior Citizens Center and the fun will begin at- 11 am and will run till 3 pm. No gifts and a lite luncheon will be served. Cindy Petersen (Donna Petersen daughter) is getting married today the 23rd to Kyle Kent Baldwin. Their reception will be held the Canyon View Stake Center in Cedar City. I have known Cindy since she went to school here, she served as an EMT here for a couple of years. I hope that Cindy and Kyle have many years of happiness. How did you like the Christmas program that the Elementary School put on Monday night? That's a lot of kids to get to perform at one time. It seems that the younger the kids are the better entertainers they are. Jill Chidester was their choir director this year and did a great job. Last Friday the Elementary School had Santa Claus come. Kathleen Cooper the school librarian hosted this fun event. She had the students sing here comes Santa Claus really loud and out jumped the Easter Bunny, it was a real hit with the kids. When Kathleen told the bunny that it wasn't her holiday, the bunny started to cry and rub her stomach like she was Santa. But the day was saved with Santa showing up. Santa told a number of Christmas stories. The Sub for Santa program went well again this year, thanks to all of the financial help from all of you out there. 103 children will have a happy Christmas, this year because all of you made it possible; bless all of you for your generosity. Mary Swartz won the quilt that was raffled off and will send it to her sister for Christmas. Thank you to Claudia Crump for her handy work, with such a great quilt. Two of Panguitch's favorite people are calling it a day. Maloy Dodds, County Commissioner and County School Superintendent Janice Hatch.. Maloy Dodds was the Mayor when Pat and I first moved here and has now completed his 15 years as our Commissioner. Maloy along with his two cohorts from Bryce Valley and Escalante, have traveled all over the Country on our behalf. Maloy has been very proactive with getting the County involved in many projects over his tenure. Just some of these were, the Jail, the Triple C Arena, Panguitch fire station, Panguitch Senior Citizens Center and the Care and Share, and the running tracks at all the High Schools in the County. The latest venture is the restoring of the County Building. All of these projects were made possible with his friendship with the other two Commissioners, and working as a team with them. Janice Hatch has been in the School District for 26 years. Janice has always been an overachiever, teaching at the high school and being over the Development Curriculum. Janice had great success as a teacher with FHA program and anything else she attempted. Curriculum Development is where she has excelled. When President Bush put in his "No Child Left Behind" program, which was based on a Texas program. Janice went to Texas to find out how their system worked and came back with an IF system that reviewed everything that the student learned over their years at school. This was a 25 minute program each day and Garfield became the star of Utah. Utah's School Board came down to find out why we had all most every student in our District passed the NCLB exams. Janice trained the Districts Teachers on new program the were out there; reading programs and the college prep classes to name just a couple. Her job took long hours, but she never turned down an idea that could help the District. When Earl Slack the Principal of Bryce Valley got called up for a year in the National Guard., Janice did his job and hers for the year he was gone, taking her work home with her at night. When the former Superintendent was suspended, Janice was asked to help out. She took a bankrupt school district and with the help of the Business Manager Lark Reynolds brought the district back. All the time she continued with her other jobs, sixteen hours,7 days a week. She was finally made the Superintendent and she continued to do both jobs and it just got to be too much. ELIMS—MAIIIIEVIREAMILU S by Vicki D. Syrett 679-8687 or vickidiane36@hotmail.com Here's wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas this year. May you enjoy your family and friends and celebrate the birth of our Savior. Take a minute to wish your neighbor Merry Christmas and then find a new friend to share the joy of the season with. It will make your celebration that much merrier. Eva Dean Francisco called and wanted to tell everyone how thankful she is for your wonderful prayers, cards and visits. She met lots of nice people while in the hospital and is grateful for their assistance. She would also like the EMT's to know how much she appreciates their quick and tender service at a time when she was in a bad situation. She laid for a few hours waiting for morning to come and find out that she had a broken neck. Eva Dean is on the road to recovery and wants you to know that during this time she found out for sure that the Savior is definitely her best friend. We are glad to know that she is in good spirits and feeling better each day. She is now home and with her loved ones for the holiday season and is feeling a lot better. A few articles ago I mentioned the Pioneer Academy Singers and their going around and singing Christmas Carols as a gift from one person to another. You must hear them and watch them as they sing. They are marvelous and the looks on the faces as they deliver their music is great. It has been a very successful venture for these folks trying to earn tuition to Music Camp this summer.. It is worth the time you put into listening to them to hear the music. There will be a Concert held on the 22nd at the Henrieville Ward Chapel for anyone who would like to take time to go and listen to this musical treat. Thank you to the ones involved and to those who have sent cards out to others to brighten their Christmas scene. Thank you Pioneer Academy Singers, you are just wonderful. Chance, Jessica, and their children went to Salt Lake to spend some quality family time together and finish up some Christmas Shopping. They had a great adventure seeing movies, going to Temple Square to see the light display, and doing many other things around the city. A fun trip to create more bonding. Gayle Moore reports that many people have been driving around looking at the lights so she and her husband, Frankie, decided to also go out and see the sights. What a beautiful treat awaited them. There are so many lights around and the decorations look great. It is nice to see the extra effort and time that went into creating a touch of Christmas Spirit. Take a few minutes and drive through the towns and see all the decorations. It will lift your spirits up and delight the kids. The Henrieville Choir entertained the people in Henrieville today. Cliff Mathews was the narrator, Collette Mathews was the organist, Milton Rose the Chorister, and Theron and Marilyn Rose gave talks. It was absolutely enjoyable. The Young Single Adults had a great party hosted by Chad and Mindy Grimshaw. Those who attended had a great evening, got better acquainted and even dipped chocolates. Thanks to the Grimshaws for a very fun evening. Art and Vicki Syrett went to Cedar City this weekend to have a family celebration. It is the first time in many years we have ALL been together under the same roof. We took pictures. Opened gifts and enjoyed delicious food. It was great fun. The Young Men and Young Women of Henrieville will go Christmas Caroling this week. Lorelei Adkins and her family flew to Florida to pickup son, Clinton who has been there for two years serving a mission. They have been very excited.. Clinton's homecoming will be held on the 26th of December. They have also been enjoying their new home and are looking towards Christmas for the first time in their new home. Kasey Shakespear should be coming home this week also. It will be great to see this successful young man as he comes home from Peru where he has been serving a mission. I was very excited to look at the front page of the Daily News (Spectrum) and see Trevor Pierson's smiling face looking back at me. We seldom get much coverage in that paper so it was great to see a familiar face. He attends the Southwest Applied Technology Academy and was recognized with six Certificates of Skill Competency in the automotive program. He is pursuing more skill competency to lead up to the Certificate of Completion which is a top award. He chose the school because it has low tuition, awesome faculty, great instruction and it is close to home. Trevor is the son of Clint and Denise Pierson of Tropic. Good work Trevor and keep smiling. Layne and April Le Fevre are the proud grandparents to Joshua Luke who was born on December 8th to Josh and Leslie Porter. He weighed in at 8 lbs. 6 ozs.. and was 21 inches long. Older sister, Lainey was very excited to have a new little brother. April has been up north spending time with the new baby and playing with Lainey. Congratulations to the family on this great event in their life. On Christmas Eve the Tropic Ward will celebrate the Christmas Holiday with a party and music given by the Primary at the Bryce Valley High School Auditorium. It will begin at 5:00 P.M. The Tropic Ward Choir will present their musical Christmas program on the 26th of December. They have been practicing long and hard for this day. There will be no Senior Citizen news this week. A special musical number in Tropic today was given between speakers by the Tebbs girls, Alexis, Tyerah, and Paisley.. They are the daughters of David and Cherrie Tebbs and it was beautiful. HC Greg Chris- tensen and Don Coleman spoke. A very nice program. Well once again have a great week and Merry Christmas to all of you. Please email or call in your news. Thanks VS. The Syrett Family want to send their thanks and appreciation out to the many who showed concern and love during the time of our loss of mother, Jean Bybee Syrett.
