Show LEGAL NOTICES} SPORTS SIDE LINES By Mack Oetting BREANNE BATEMAN, KALANI NORRIS AND TAYLER TEBBS MAKES SLC TRIBUNE'S FIRST STRING ALL-STATE VOLLEYBALL TEAM, The PHS Lady Cats dominated volley ball, like never before. The Ladies over a two year period won 67 games in a row, only losing 5 sets all year long. Kalani Norris was a repeat MVP. Kalani destroyed the Utah State kill record that was set at 1530 and she finished the season with 1990 kills. PHS Volleyball team has won the State Title, 3 out the last 4 years, Kalani was a starter on all three of these State Championships. The Lady Cats basketball team had two games last week, against an unbeaten Parowan team; they came up a little short, losing 42 to 49. Kalani Norris caught fire in the last quarter, scoring 14 points with 7 straight baskets. Of the 42 points scored Kalani ended up with 32 of them. Parowan has 4 tall girls, which shut down the rest of the team with their defense. Against Wayne it was the tale of two halves. In the first half Wayne played the Cats tough and led 19 to 16. The second half was as different as night and day, I don't believe I have ever seen any team play so well, as a team. Everyone got into the act, either with their scoring or with their defense. The Cats trounced the Badger 49 to 25 in the second half, for a final score of 65 to 44. The Cats are a young team with only two seniors. Kalani again led the scoring with 30 points and Breanne Bateman seemed to get most of the rebounds, as good as these two seniors were this was a truly team effort. The Lady Cats will be traveling down to the Mesquite tournament on Friday and Saturday, the 17 and 18th , but they do have a home game on next Tuesday December 21st against what I hear is a very good Bryce Valley team. The Bob Cats had a great week, winning all three games. The game on Wednesday night with the Beavers was a real thriller, with the Cats winning in the second overtime, by 4. The Cats traveled up to Richfield to SVC with two games on Friday and Saturday and came away with two easy victories against Tabiona and White Horse. Tonight the Bob Cats have a home game against the Wayne Badgers, who are always tough. The Cats hit the road with a game against Wasatch Academy on Dec. 17 and on Dec. 22 they have a game in Escalante. The Wrestlers are enjoying a good start this year and are getting better with each meet. They lost to Parowan a 2A school by 13 with Jory Owens and Cade Cole taking first place in their weight. In tournament play in Parowan on Saturday they ended up taking 4th place with Jory Owens and Cade Cole again winning their weight. Jake Beckstead, Sam Vasquez, Tyler Brinkerhoff all took 2nd place in their weight and Colton Julander and Paxton Cooper placed third. Last night they faced North Sevier, a team that won the Panguitch Invitational and will be on the road to Manti for another tournament on Dec 17 and 18th. Good Luck Teams. BOOK CLIFFS POACHING CASES Seven deer have been poached recently in the Book Cliffs in eastern Utah. Now officers with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources are asking for your help to find those responsible. Bryan Clyde, a conservation officer with the DWR, says a gut pile was found recently about 65 yards up the hill from the bottom of Bitter Creek Canyon. "At the scene were two sets of footprints and drag marks where they pulled the deer downhill," he says. Clyde says the animal the pile belonged to was killed on or before Nov. 23. He says a cow elk hunt was happening in the area when the animal was killed. But the size of the gut pile and other evidence indicates the animal the poachers killed wasn't an elk. "This was a deer — taken illegally — as the deer season is closed in this area," Clyde says. In addition, six other deer have been shot and left to rot in the Book Cliffs. They include a buck deer shot in the Rainbow area (the poacher cut the animal's antlers off and then left the animal to rot); a buck poached on the Kings Well Road near the Greek Corrals; a buck killed in Three Mile Canyon; a buck poached in Park Canyon; and a doe and fawn killed near Watson.
