Show FYJPANCUITCH I lb: *Gib How about all that snow this morning (Sunday)? It was really wet stuff and since it has been warm enough that the ground hasn't frozen, hopefully it will soak in. The State road crew was out early cleaning the highways and the City workers had the town streets plowed early on. We are fortunate that we live in Panguitch that has employees that take care of these things, smaller towns are stuck having to hire contract workers to move the snow. My Grandson is one of the snow removers up in the Mammoth region and the residents pay about $185 a year, for this service. There are 4 storms that are supposed to hit us in the next three days but by the time you read this, you will know for sure. Brian Head Ski resort opened yesterday, what great timing, they should have plenty of snow for the holidays. Well the storm that came through on Tuesday didn't have a lot of snow but did it bring some cold temperatures with it. Channel 2 news had Panguitch at -29 degrees, the coldest place in the Country and probably the World. Hope you left some water run to keep your pipes from freezing. Many thanks to the Leon Crump's family for covering up our benches in the Quilt walk park area, your timing was great. Last Wednesday we had a blood drive at the Stake Center; we had a really good turn out and picked up around 50 pints of bloods for the Red Cross. That's 50 lbs of weigh that the town lost. The Red Cross has done away with the Fig Bars, my favorite, but had plenty of other goodies. The also had a drawing for tickets for the big game, Utah against BYU. The only question they asked was is your blood red or blue. I guess they don't want you to be in the wrong rooting section. The heater at the Stake Center was out and it took a lot longer to give blood than usually but everything worked out. If you forgot your appointment, you can catch up in the near future. Many thanks to the Henries' Janis and Vee for putting this blood drive together. If you haven't seen the plans for the renovation to our County Buildings, go down and check them out. This is going to be really special; they are keeping the existing original building and its tower and duplicating it on the north side. This almost 5 million dollar project will be paid for with $900,000 grant from CIB funds, and funds from rural area funds. I hope I got this right, the important part there won't be any increase in your taxes. What should be fun is that they are moving much of the work force at the County Building down to the Fair building. The County has purchased room dividers for the offices, on line for pennies on the dollar. Another wonderful thing the town that was bidding against us, will buy it from us when the County is through with it. It is my understanding is this project will be let out in March and construction will begin in the spring and could take a year to complete. The Thanksgiving dinner at the Senior Citizens was a huge success, with around 100 meals served. There was plenty of help, even with the clean up. Many thanks to those that cooked the turkeys; they all came out super good. Thanksgiving I believe is my favorite holiday. Think about it, no fireworks, presents, flowers to buy. Just enjoy a day with friends and family; giving thanks for all that you have been given. Thanks very much to the Panguitch Lions Club for sponsoring this fun event. The Angel Tree is up at Joe's Market and if you can help out it will be greatly appreciated. On December 4th Santa will be coming to Town and will make a stop at the Social Hall. There will be much candy and hot chocolate to warm up all. Santa also goes to the Extended Care facility and drops off a small gift and a Christmas Ho Ho. The Merchant Drawing will start also at the Social Hall at 1:00. You can get tickets for the drawing by purchasing $10:00 from one of the Merchants in town. The Merchant Drawing is a Main Street Yearly Event and the attendance improves yearly. This is the season for fun and festivals, each Ward in town is having a Christmas dinner. The 1st Ward dinner will be on December 7th and all are welcome. The 1st Ward Relief Society will have their party on the 15th. Lots of organizations get together to celebrate as well. Let me know when you are having parties and I will put it in the column. Don't forget to have your Christmas lights up by December 4th. The 2nd Ward dinner will be held on December 21st and 3rd Wards will be held on December 14. Invite your friends and neighbors to these dinners. The Panguitch Lions Club annual dinner will be held on December 7th and will be at the Senior Center, for the members. Claudia Crump designed and quilted a holiday quilt to be raffled off at the Merchant drawing. Tickets will be $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. The Quilt and the tickets are at Zions Bank for your viewing. The money will go for the Sub for Santa project. The drawing will be Saturday the 18th at the Merchant Drawing;1:00 at the Social Hall. Kennedy Barney, the daughter of Susan and Lewis, won the big buck contest at the Shed Sporting Good store. Her buck had a 27" spread and was a three pointer. She won a black powder rifle for her efforts. The Shed is a great place to purchase your sporting goods Christmas present. Also you can get merchant drawing tickets there. Hey little friend out there in Richman, Virginia, your sister-in-law Judy says that I wig she sends you a copy of the Insider so you can keep up on the news. There was a search and rescue hunt in our area and your lot has a clear view of the whole valley from your house. Who ever is looking after your house is sure doing a great job. I hear you are enjoying your work and calling back there. Best wishes to you for the Holidays from all your friends back home. I met a returned Missionary last night and he said that his mother sent him the paper so he also could keep up on the local news. If you happen to like art and want to visit the new display at the Springville Museum of Art, you will find the winners of the Religious and Spiritual contest there. Look for three Artist's work from Garfield County! Lynn Griffin from Escalante, had two new paintings of the Hole-in-the Rock expedition, and won Merit awards. The paintings picture the amazing accomplishment of the pioneers who defied all odds to reach their destination. One of our own--Veda Tebbs Hale also had one of her watercolors accepted! She rendered a beautiful mother sheep and her lamb, and entitled it 'Mother Love'. Our new artist in town is Jorli Perine and she is in the process right now of restoring the Old Tebbs home (formerly Veda's Grandparents) next to Henrie's Drive Inn. Her plans for the store include a gallery, home-made items, quilts, and special equipment from her family business, Ellison Educational Equipment. She will feature the new Ellison Die Cut Quilt machine, and will make the machines available for use! Jorli Perine entered her large painting of the first creation of the waters called, 'Face of the Deep Abraham 4:2' (oil on canvas), into the Springville museum and was accepted. She also has her new book TIRSAH' S DREAM' available for sale in the Springville museum's book store. Jorli's last showing at the prestigious Springville Museum ofArt was in 2007, with oil on canvas entitled `Solitude'. She then went on to compete in the LDS International Art Competition where she won a second showing of 'Solitude' at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City. 'Solitude' is one of the paintings used as an illustration in her book TIRSAH'S DREAM', which can be seen at the Panguitch City Office/Library. Her illustrated book is also donated to the Library and Garfield hospital. Personal copies of her book and Gicle'es (prints) of the illustrations are available at the Library! (trivia) Jorlis' family was part of the Martin Hand Cart Co. and ended up settling the Heber Valley. Her Great Grandfather was in Garfield County during the war, and was given the job to teach 800 Jewish refugees how to hitch a wagon, farm and ride a horse. Seems possible that our little town might get known for its artists! We certainly have the scenery for it. (Dreams do come true in PANGUITCH)!!! Saturday night Yvonne Ricketts and her Daughter Alex were baptized by EBRI ....a;MAIIIIEWAR by Vicki D. Syrett 679-8687 or vickidiane36@hotmail.com Well the big snowstorm that was supposed to come must have lost its way. The little sciff we got was gone an hour after the sun came up. The thought of the storm sent many of the visiting college students home a day early because they did not want to drive in the big storm. We had a lot of the college kids home visiting for Thanksgiving as well as many families had all their kids and their families home to celebrate and they too left a day earlier. News will be short this week due to so many people being gone. But here goes with what I have. Logann Eager was called to be a Wolf Scout Leader and Helen Willis was called to be a Primary substitute in the Henrieville Ward. Gwen Brinkerhoff was released as well as Sydney Syrett from the Nursery and Sydney was called to be the Second Counselor in the Young Women. Congratulations to Dane Shakespear who received his call to Micronesia Guam mission. He is the son of Kelly and Pat Shakespear of Tropic. Ian Johnson of Henrieville was baptized on Saturday by his father, Carlon Johnson. He is the son of Carlon and Heather Johnson. The people in Henrieville were treated to their bishopric being the speakers today. Bishop Jeff Johnson, Ralph Chynoweth, Dale Pollock and Klinton Chynoweth the Ward Clerk all spoke. Jacob Moss of Cannonville played a beautiful number on the piano. He is the son of John and Ramona Moreale. In Tropic the lighting ceremony will be held on the 7th of December with a dinner, a program, and then turning on the lights. Henrieville will have a Primary Program and a lighting ceremony on 30 November. The Town Park will be the place of the lighting ceremony and the park was decorated by Heather Johnson and her son, Tell. There is a home in Tropic that has a wonderful light display that can be seen from a distance. It is at the home that used to be the Earl Jolley Home. It looks great and you can see lights going up everywhere now. Fun time of the year. "The aging process has you firmly in it's grip if you never have the urge to throw a snowball." (D. Larson) ""In a survey, the top three stresses for men were: a fighter pilot in battle, an actor delivering a monologue and Christmas shopping an hour before closing time." (L. Neeson) Well the news is very short as you can see and a lot of it comes from church news. So if you have an item you would like in the news please call or email it in to me. That goes for anyone who would like their news in the column. I appreciate those that take the time to share their news with us. SENIOR CITIZEN MENU: Call by 10:00 A.
