Show The Garfield County Insider Page 4 June 24, 2010 gimpAmourrog 114;1eidia@iiiiiacfnii Panguitch residents had some big time success at the Summer Games. Debbie Hatch, Marilyn and Steve Marshall all won Gold Medals in the 10,000 meters. Running at this distant requires a lot of work and training, congratulation to all of you for your endeavors. Twelve years ago two BMW bikers stopped in at the Flying M restaurant. They talked to Janet Oldham about their chances of coming to Panguitch with their BMW club for a rally. Janet brought it to the City Council and the rest is history. They have been coming here for the last eleven years. They have been a great benefit to the economy here; their bikes are so quite you don't even know they are around. The Beamers are the biggest contributor to the Sub for Santa fund, Pat really appreciates them. They give out awards for the biker which traveled the farthest, and one came all the way from Ohio, there were some from Okalahoma and Kentucky. They are an interesting group that comes from all walks of life. The Beamers are treated to a Lions breakfast and a Fire Fighters barbecue dinner, their numbers were down a bit this year, and they say because of the economy and expect it to be back up next year. This weekend is the balloon festival, with balloon launching on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings. There are all kinds of events planned, with the Glow schedule for Saturday night and a dance for a grand finale. There will be a Lions Club breakfast at Zions Bank on Saturday morning from 7:30 to 10:00, there is a mistake on the program, the cost of the breakfast is $6 dollars as it has been for the last two years. Cheryl Church and the Main Street Committee has all kind of events planned for this weekend, there will be Harley bikers here and they will be putting on a parade and a bike obstacle course. There will be music on Main Street. Saturday evening and plenty of company as the biggest crowds of the year will be here. You need to make sure that you check the schedule, so you don't miss any of the fun and excitement. Fire Chief David Dodds has 10 fire fighters that have qualified for fire fighter 2 designation. Twenty Five men started out on this very difficult, long coarse and 10 of these hardy men finished this 4 month long, twice a week learning process. Andy Black, Raleigh Burningham, David Dodds, A.J. and Mike Johnson, Gary Leach, Jimmy Oldham, Justin Peterson, Jason Reynolds and Mike Sarlig. It is so good to see so many young men take an interest in saving lives and protecting your property. Speaking of fire departments, just when I thought nothing new ever happens, this is one for the books and would be funny if it wasn't so tragic. At Panguitch Lake fire department Chief David Etter was just sitting down to his computer at the station when the world collapsed around him. It seems that where the station is located there isn't water available to fill the fire engines in the winter time. A three thousand gallon bladder was built into the ceiling. When filled it weights about 11 tons, it gave a way sending water everywhere, it blew the sides out of part of the station. It wiped out much of the sheet rock and insulation, in Dave's office they had to remove all of the sheet rock to dry things out. Dave says that they still can respond from the station, while it is being restored. Adam Sawyer called and wanted to know if the Lions Club was having their Demolition Derby again this year. It will be held on Saturday August 21 at the end of the County Fair. Adam has won the prettiest car trophy two years in a row, I don't know why he wants to enter in the mayhem with his car but he usually does well. So all of you car builders get going now, every year I get someone that is one or two days from being done. The last few years Richfield has taken most of the prize money home, so lets keep a little of that cash locally. Pat and I went over to Parowan to see the Quilt Walk Statue and it is completed. We have done a lot of traveling in our days and I can't remember ever seeing a more detailed, sculpture anywhere. I just don't have the words to describe how wonderful, Stan Johnson creation is. Michelangelo would be proud of Stan and it should be in the Louve Museum in Paris. Every one of you that put money in the jars, bought chocolate, attended quilting classes, had a part in making this project possible and you are going to be pleased with the results. As soon as the cement work at Zions Bank Park is finished it will be put in place. Stan Johnson will finish off the final course of cement, with white cement that will make it look like snow. There will be a dedication of the statue and park PAROWAN DENTAL 14 North Main St. Parowan, Utah (435)477-9577 New Patients Welcome Affordable Family Dentistry Justin Marsh, DDS Esealaute Native as soon as it is ready. You will be the first to know the date. There was a going away party for Joe Adams. Joe is on his way to Iraq and will be part of the team that will be closing down the computers, as our men are withdrawn from combat. Take care Joe, be safe! Pam and John Yardley will be home from their Mission in Idaho, next week. Elaine Baldwin told me a story about them. Shortly after they were married, the Catholic Church that was an A frame structure came up for sale for $5,000. John had an idea that it would be great up at Panguitch Lake as a branch ward. He didn't have any money, but went to the bank and got a loan to buy it. Bob Orton trucking hauled it up the mountain, on the way there was a loud crack. They stopped the truck and the back of the structure had cracked, but they made it up the mountain. However when they dropped off the building, it split in two. They couldn't push it back together, the Elders in the two Wards came to the rescue and built on to the building, making it bigger. John, I understand was the first Branch President. How old was he? Well John Yardley was made a Bishop at age 23. If anyone has wagon wheels for sale or better yet to give away the Quilt Walk Committee would like them for the park. Contact Pat Oetting (676-2418) and give her your best offer. Just in case you did not get a BIG "Thank You" for your effort in making the Quilt Walk Festival such a success, please know that your effort was highly appreciated and that you are now officially a part of the festival committee. Pleas don't wait to be ask, every ones help is really needed. Already we are planning for next year. Your suggestions are also welcome. Call Pat @ 676-2418. Denny Orton has arranged to have a shuttle bus or van to take the dialysis patients to Cedar City starting on Tuesday July 6th. The 3 days the van will travel will be Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. With the help of Camille Moore, the County Commissioners and the dialysis team in Cedar the three dialysis patients will have treatment on the same days and at the same time. In the past 36 trips per month were made because of different time schedules and with this new time change it has reduced the trips to 12 per month. The patients need to be picked up by 9:30 am and they will be finished by 3:30pm. July rides will be arranged by Dean Scheffer at 676 8736. Eventually the rides will be schedules by the 4 wards. This means that volunteers are needed. An added benefit is that if you have a doctor's appointment in Cedar and there is room on the shuttle, riders are welcome. There will be drivers available encase there is a time when no one can make it. Many thanks to all those that made this shuttle bus possible. I am sure the demand for dialysis treatment will continue to grow. Keep the good news coming, Mack 0. by Vicki D. Syrett 679-8687 or vickidiane36@hotmail. To the Father's out there we hope your Father's Day was wonderful. We know you are wonderful and deserve the best. Keep up the great work and know you are loved. A letter from Danny Britt tells us that he is recovering nicely from his 6 bypass surgery. He said he had a mild heart attack that did not get picked up on the EKG but a blood test did show it. He spent time in the hospital after the surgery and developed pneumonia the following week. He is stronger now and starting to feel up to getting around. He and his wife are looking forward to coming down here to visit friends and family some time in the near future. Keep up the recovery Danny and good luck. It should be quite and adventure for them and we hope the weather will be good for their camping. Elder Gonk of the First Seventies addressed the Henrieville Ward congregation today after having been successful at addressing the Single Young Adults at their activity on Saturday.
