Show Page 7 The Garfield County Insider August 6, 2009 LEGAL Funny how the nation’s media is so quick to cover things like A Beer @ The White House or... Where Michael Jackson’s kids will be living... But...... Ed Freeman You’re an 19 year old kid. You’re critically wounded, and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley, 11-141965, LZ X-ray, Vietnam . Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8–1, and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the Medi-Vac helicopters to stop coming in. You’re lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you’re not getting out. Your family is half way around the world—12,000 miles away— and you’ll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of helicopter, and you look up to see an un-armed Huey, but it doesn’t seem real, because no Medi-Vac markings are on it. Ed Freeman is coming for you. He’s not MediVac, so it’s not his job, but he’s flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire, after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come. He’s coming anyway. And he drops it in, and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 2 or 3 of you on board. Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire, to the doctors and nurses. And, he kept coming back…13 more times…and took about 30 of you and your buddies out, who would never have gotten out.. Medal of Honor Recipient, Ed Freeman, died Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 at the age of 80, in Boise, ID…May God rest his soul. Isn’t it wonderful how the nation’s MEDIA did so well in covering this man’s passing and heroics??? Medal of Honor Winner... Ed Freeman....... We salute you! UPAXLP AGRICULTURE RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT LOANS AVAILABLE The Canyonlands and Upper Sevier Conservation Districts would like to announce that the Agriculture Resource Development Loan (ARDL) Program has funding available for local producers to utilize this fall for conservation projects on private and state lands. The ARDL Program provides low interest loans to farmers and ranchers, which meet the conservation and pollution goals of the program. Some examples of eligible project include: Animal waste management, Riparian improvement, Water usage management, Rangeland improvement, Reseeding watershed, Wind erosion control, On Farm Energy Development. The projects are assessed a one time 4% administrative fee, and the interest rate is a low 3% per year. Payments are due annually on the first of December. The ARDL program also can be used in conjunction with approved USDA Farm Bill projects to cover the producer’s match using federal funds for conservation projects. For more information about the ARDL program and how to apply, contact Tyce Palmer at the Utah Association of Conservation Districts, Zone Five Office at (435) 676-8189. You can also contact the Natural Resource Conservation Service Office in Panguitch at (435) 676-8021. As with any loan, it takes time to process, so this time of year is good for farmers and ranchers to begin planning for future conservation practices that can be in place on the farm next spring. “Remember conservation doesn’t cost it pays!” |
