Here is a good idea that makes perfect sense. Wish I had had it for a recent weeks column on credit cards. Dear Veda, I appreciate you column and look forward to it each week. I wanted to comment on your column that appeared in Thurs. Sept. 21st*s paper. Not too long ago, our Credit Union hosted an Identity Theft Prevention night. One of the points they stressed is that you DO sign the back of your credit card AND put "See ID" on it. This is why: It is relatively easy for identify thefts to get fake ID's. They could easily put THEIR Photo with YOUR ID information. Then when they sign, there is no signature to compare td. On my cards I have signed my name and put "ask me for my ID" When the cashier does, I make sure I thank them for doing so. When they do not ask my for my ID, I kindly tell them that I am trying to prevent my identity from being stolen and I would appreciate it if they would ask to see ID. Hopefully, they will make asking for ID a habit. This may be something you would like to pass on to your readers. Again, I thank you for your column and appreciate it. Sincerely, Rachelle Holbrook Corn on the cob time! I had a good tip come in that said to put a little sugar in the water when boiling corn, that it VEDA HALE & Ati G Wayne Ott brings out the sweetness in the corn. When there are only one or two ears to cook, I use the microwave and get good results if I simply pull back the green husks, pull out the silk, brings the husks back up around kernels and then microwave for 3 minutes. Wrap them in a towel for a few more minutes and the corn is moist and sweet. It seems it would save nutrients that might be thrown away with the water. A hint to keep tomatoes past the time when fresh-from-the garden is expected. Pick the green, nearly mature ones and wrap each in newspaper and store in a cool place. Wrapping separately seems to be the key. I remember having good tomatoes until after Thanksgiving one year. The electricity was out for a spell near Panguitch Lake. It makes one think what to do. I got out the candles and noticed a lot of build up in the holders, so much so that some wouldn't stand upright. I remembered a hint—put holder in the freezer. I did and then turned them up-side down, out fell the built up wax. Easy. Since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer are not allowed in most public schools anymore because the word "God" is mentioned....A kid in Arizona wrote the attached NEW School prayer. Now I sit me down in school, where praying is against the rule. For this great nation under God, finds mention of Him very odd. If Scripture now the class recites, It violates the Bill of Rights... And anytime my head I bow, becomes a Federal matter now. " , Our hair can be purple, orange or green, that's no offense; it's a freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise, Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice. For praying in a public hall, might offend someone with no faith at all. In silence alone we must meditate, God's name is prohibited by the state. We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks, And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks. They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible. To quote the Good Book makes me liable. We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen, And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King. It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong, We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong. ,_ We can get our condoms and birth controls, Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles. But the Ten Commandments are not allowed, . No word of God must reach this crowd. ; It's scary here I must confess, When chaos reigns the school's a mess. So, Lord, this silentplealmake: Should I be shot; My soul please take! Amen. |
