Show ;**• V. • UTAH r,f7:E5s ASSO SALT LAKE C I TV Publication No. 047 - 400 County Seat Newspaper Since 1904 Serving AH of Beaver County VOLUME 10 NUMBER 18 April 26,-May 2, 2010 RaCail Nelson Achieves Top Medalist at Jr. High State Debate Bright and early Thursday morning, April 22, 2010, six junior high Lincoln Douglas debate students, Jenessa Jessup, Jessica Jones, RaCaii Nelson, Dallas Jessup, Zack Melling, and Lane Yardley, participated in the Utah State Debate tournament at Hunter High School in Salt Lake City. Students from all over the state qualified for this prestigious event, and the Beaver High School students were pleased to represent their school. RaCail Nelson took top speaking honors winning the First Place speaker medal, Dallas Jessup won the Fifth Place speaker medal, and Briann Limb won the Sixth Place speaker medal. After four rounds of stiff competition, RaCail Nelson took Third Place and brought home the traveling trophy for the fourth year in a row, and Dallas Jessup placed Fifth. It was RaCail's birthday, so the team enjoyed helping her celebrate with cake and ice cream. David Edward Cyphert of Milford, Utah was booked on the charges of Drive on a suspended or revoked drivers license. Praphan Natad of Beaver, Utah was booked on the charges of Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Alcohol restricted driver violation, Interlock restricted driver violation, Driving on a suspended or revoked drivers license. • Tiani -'Marie Chaytor of Beaver, Utah was booked on the charges of Warrant. Cory Nathan Halverson of Milford, Utah, Possession of drug paraphernalia, Possession of marijuana. Beaver School District's annual District Spelling Bee was held on March 2nd at Milford High School. Twenty-five students districtwide from grades 4-8 participated in the bee. The competition was intense and after many rounds of spelling multi-syllable words, Abby Harris, a fourth grade student from Belknap Elementary, stood victorious as the district spelling bee champion. Abby is the daughter of Bryan and Tiffany Harris. Alongside Abby stood Kennedy Nielson (2nd place), a fifth grade student at Milford Elementary and Sherra Swapp (3rd place), a sixth grade student who also attends Milford Elementary. The district spelling bee committee would like to congratulate all of those who participated in the district spelling bee. A great deal of time was spent studying words, spelling patterns, spelling rules, and word origins. We look forward to another fine competition next year. The students were required to read the newspaper and research this topic and write arguments and cases for.both sides. . After completing their cases, they had a competition within their class that lasted-seven days. The varsity debate students were the judges, and the 8th graders enjoyed a taste of how fun and rewarding debate can be. After a neck-to-neck competition, the following students won: First Place and going six straight wins: Jennifer Mohler, Second Place: Briann Limb, Third Place: Jessica Jones, Fourth. Place: Lane Yardley, Fifth Place: RaCail Nelson, and Sixth Place: Zac Harris. The students and Coach Eyre would like to thank the Varsity Debate students and Von Christiansen for judging. After playing nine holes, other family members met the girls and their dads on the terrace for a pot luck-dinner. The weather was beautiful, the golf was fun, and the food was great. The girls would like to thank Jack Erwig for making this memorable event possible. On April 27, 2010, the girls golf team traveled to Richfield to play 18 holes. The top scorers were Kim Frandsen with 50 Stableford points, Rebecca Kanell and Acacia Young with 49, and Chanda Kreth with 40. It was a good practice for the girls before they compete at Region on May 4 at the Moab Golf Club and State at Oquirrah Hills in Tooele on May 12. Beaver River Watershed Day The 14th Annual Beaver River Watershed Day will be held on May 7th. This year we wHI be cutting down Juniper starts on the Greenville Bench and South Creek. If you are a •Dedicated Hunter and need volunteer hours these projects has been approved by DWR. We will meet in front of the Beaver County Administration Building, 105 E. Center at 8:00 a.m. AH the 7th and 9th grades from Beaver High School will be participating. Lunch will be served to all participants at 12:00 at the Pioneer Park. Bring loppers or hand saws. Beaver County Livestock/Horse Show The spring Livestock & Horse Show will be held Saturday, May 8th, at the Beaver County Fairgrounds in Minersville.
