Camp The Nancy K. Camp of the DUP held their meeting on Monday, March 9, 2009 at the 1st/2nd Ward Church. Captain TheJma Goodwin took charge and welcomed everyone out. She reminded us of the DUP Convention on April "18, 2009 at the Senior Center. They will be serving lunch and she needed to know who would be going. Election for County Offices are to be held this year and ff anyone is interested in running for office to let her know. Opening song was "Salute To9 Our Utah Pioneers", led by Peggy Ruesch. Prayer was given by Joyce Johnson, Pledge was led by Carol Vukovich. Pat Nelson gave an interesting article on the furniture in the Pioneer Museum and how the pioneers made it in those days. The lesson The Andrew Jensen Collection" was given by Betty Gillins. Andrew Jensen was a Latter Day Saints convert, Utah Pioneer Historian, writer, trader, lecturer, newspaper man, genealogist, translator, missionary, mission President, and President of Seventies Quorum. He collected and donated many articles to the Pioneer Museum, he donated 100 years of the Deseret News. We had a special guest, Trisha. Harris.pjay.a medley of Iffsh* "sohgs~""drV her violin. Refreshments were served by Peggy Ruesch. Membership in the dub is not a requirement to enter the contest and there are absolutely no entry fees. is a ; CutestPetContest.com ; proud member of the Better : Business Bureau. 7 Greenwood Camp Meets The Daughters of Utah Pioneers Greenwood Camp held their March meeting in the lst-2nd Ward Church on Monday, March 9, 2009 Captain Pat Harris called the meeting to order with Jolene Goff offering the opening prayer and leading, the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Songs were sung under the direction of Mildred Atkin, Chorister, These included "A Salute to the Utah Pioneers", and "My Bonnie", In association of the forth coming Irish holiday, St. Patrick's Day. Secretary Janet Robinson presented the minutes of the February meeting for approval. Daughter Beverly Bloodworth gave the pioneer history of her Great Great Grandmother Clara , Viola Packard who was married to William BeardalL The young couple were born in England, and joined the LDS Church there. Their family received many special blessings. On the ship crossing the ocean, the ship drifted back to the home base causing them to lose 3 weeks time. They arrived in New York and then traveled to Councii Bluffs to start their journey to Salt Lake City. Joseph F. Smith was the captain of their group. They eventually settled in Sprfngville. Food - shortage and a suitable dwelling were some of their problems. There are 840 blood relations surviving this family. Daughter Dariene Vaughn shared a highly Valued rocking chair that belonged to her Great Grandmother. She' also had a treasured white satin slipper that her grandmother had wom for her wedding celebration. The lesson subject wa3 on the Andrew Jensen Collection. Lesson leader Leola Myers gave a very informative history of his life. He was a convert, historian, newspaper man, and missionary president. Through his life he compiled an encyclopedia of the history of the LDS Church and ffs early history. In this history was mention of every ward, branch and mission in the early church. Because of his dedication and abilities he became very dear to the DUP organization. They have a special place for his life's work and it includes 100 newspapers and other valuable endeavors.
