He went to play three seasons at the University of Utah under McBride and then went on to play seven seasons in the NFL. Dyson spent time with the Tennessee Titans from 2001-2004, the Seattle Seahawks in 2005 and the New York Jetsfrom2006-2007. "Obviously bringing in Andre Dyson, and him having NFL experience will be great," said WSU junior receiver Tim Toone. While with the Seahawks in 2005, Dyson was named NFC Defensive PlayeroftheWeekforhisperformance on Monday Night Football returning both a 72-yard interception return and a 25-yard fumble return for touchdowns in Seattle's 42-0 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Dyson also played in Superbowl XL that year, losing 21-10 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. "Obviously Andre brings a great deal of experience to our coaching staff," McBride said. "He knows what it takes to be a successful defensive back and I have full confidence he will impart that knowledge to our players. We are very lucky to have him join our staff." While McBride is bringing in plenty of new faces to coach the team next year, Toone said the team isn't too concerned about who is filling the coaching spots for the 2009 season. "We really don't care who comes in," Toone said, "as long as they help put us in a good position to win." On Saturday, several new Wildcats were sporting freshly shaved mohawks, which are appearing in greater numbers every game on the WSU bench. "I don't know what's going on with it/1 said WSU Head Coach Randy Rahe. "But every time I turn around, there's a few more. Hey, if these kids keep doing stuff to bond together, I have no problem with it." Along with the mohawks, WSU had a raucous crowd on hand, which got fired up often in the Dee Events Center. "The crowd was absolutely phenomenal," Rahe said. "It was probably the best regular season crowd we've had since I've been at PHOTO BY OTTO GREULE AUSPOKT Weber and our kids loved it. Game Notes: Davis led all scorers with 19 points. He also had four rebounds, three assists, one blocked shot, and two steals ... McCoy had 18 points of his own, along with six rebounds, three assists and four steals ... WSU outscored ISU's bench 29-9 and won the points in the paint battle 26-22. The win moves WSU to 8-1 in the Big Sky Conference, who still hold down the first-place spot. The Wildcats now travel to the University of Northern Colorado next Thursday. EXAMINER Weber State University guard Damian Lillard lays up a shot against an Idaho State University defender Saturday night. WSU won the game 75-61. Fall continued from page 7 against a team that runs systems so well. That was the difference, our systems let down." Both teams' systems on special teams also played a major factor in the game. Four of the five goals scoredinthegamewerepowerplay markers. The Wildcats were 2-for10 on the man advantage and the Rams were2-for-9. The Wildcats' first goal came from forward Anton Volkov on the first powerplay of the game, midway through the first period. Volkov's one-timer opened the scoring and gave the 'Cats a ton of momentum. But WSU squandered that momentum by taking a penalty just seconds after the ensuing faceoff. CSU's Tim Stiller scored on the Ram powerplay to tie things up in a hurry. CSU also scored on its fifth powerplay of the game as Mitch Hoover netted a juicy rebound 39 seconds into the second period. "It's a tough loss," said WSU Head Coach Steve Soto. "I think we gave it 100 percent, but we made mistakes." The loss was especially hard for the Wildcats considering the ranking implications that came with the game. This was the only real opportunity No. 2 WSU had in the remainder of the season to play and beat a top team iri the division. So not only do the Wildcats have a slim chance to move up in the rankings now, there is also a chance that No. 3 University of Northern Colorado could leapfrog WSU, already having beaten No. 1 CSU earliet in the season. ' "This hurts our No. 2 spot definitely," Soto said. "That's pretty much our biggest game of the semester. So we may fall, but if we do, we'll still be in the run for regionals." Those top two spots in the region are so crucial because those teams get automatic berths into the ACHA National Tournament. The No. 3 through No. 10 teams have to go through a regional tournament with the top two finishers from that tournament advancing t& nationals. "Everybody's pretty down right now/' Gover said, "but that was a good test. That's what we're going to face all through regionals, all through nationals. If nothing else, this was a learning experience." Overall, last Thursday's loss was a tough one to swallow, but Soldano said it's time to move onward and upward from there, starting in practice on Tuesday and on through the remainder of the schedule. There were still some positives from the loss to CSU that the 'Cats can carry with them. "I'm proud of the way the guys played," Soto said. "They didn't give up. We just know we have to work harder. Nothing's ever been given to this team. Weber State has always had to work for everything we've got. These guys take pride in that. It's a tough loss, but at the same time, they got that taste of where they need to be when we get to regionals and get to nationals." WSU's next game will be next weekend as the University of Arizona comes to town. See weberstateuniversityhockey.com for all the details.
