Show It isn't just a word. There's a good reason that those letters paint UVU's campus. Learning, specifically while pursuing a higher education, requires active participation. It's easy to sit back and let lectures and study sessions roll over you, penetrating your mind only enough to let you pass your midterms. But is that what you want out of your education? Is that what you're paying for? Is that what you're sacrificing hour after hour to gain? Too often students forget about learning in the pursuit of a degree, and that's all wrong. A university exists to teach you something you couldn't learn elsewhere, to enhance your mind and your abilities in a life-altering way. The existence of this magazine is a testament to those few students who have taken the philosophy of engagement to heart. This magazine is the symbol of my own experience with engagement, of the risk I took to learn beyond the classroom. It is a compilation born of hard-work and passion. Every page bares the words of those who take their time here at UVU seriously. They are the words of students and community members that are committed to continuously learning and creating. It won't always be arts and entertainment on newsprint, but there will be opportunities to engage in your life, and dear reader, I hope that you take them. —Nicola, HEX Editor HEX / Ill |
