Show SPORTS FEBRUARY 25, 2013 Real steady belief B3 66 WRESTLING from 81 takedown. Wilson got reversed and then got a reversal to ride out the first period ahead 4-2. About halfway through the second, Wilson figured out his opponent and attacked his weaknesses. He kept getting fast takedowns over his opponent to widen the point deficit and won by a major decision 14-6. Wilson was glad to have won this match, as it could have been his last. "It's kind of a weird feeling," Wilson said. "You never really think it is going to come to an end. It's really surreal. I'm glad we came out and beat a good team for my last match and we did well." After Wilson's victory, the Wolverines were able to ride out the momentum, winning 4 of the last 5 matches to earn a dominant victory 23-9. Our guys went out and wrestled tonight... Overall this was a great momentum builder for us as we'll now prepare for conference. GREG WILLIAMS Head Coach UU Head Coach Greg Williams couldn't be prouder of his team as they now turn their attention towards the Western Wrestling Conference Tournament. "Our guys went out and wrestled tonight. Air Force is a really good team and I'm proud of the way that all of our guys competed against them," Williams said. "Overall this was a great momentum builder for us as we'll now prepare for conference." This week proved to be a good one for Rauser, who had been out of competition due to illness as he earned the WWC wrestler of the week honors the following week and rose to No.18 in the recent round of the Coaches' Poll. The Wolverines will have two weeks to prepare for the conference tournament, where they will have a golden opportunity to qualify several wrestlers to the NCAA national tournament. ALL-STAR from 81 Super Bowl. And the losing team in the Pro Bowl have it worst because, technically, they lost twice. I don't mean to be biased towards baseball, but the MLB has figured out the All-Star game. It actually means something every year. The winning League gets home field advantage in the World Series, which has turned out to play in the winning team's favor. Since the rule change in 2003, the winning league in the All-Star game have gone on to be the winning league in the World Series, 7-3, including last year when the National League team gave a spanking to the American League team, and then the San Francisco Giants (NL) swept the Detroit Tigers (AL) in the World Series. It is all fun and games until somebody gets hurt and maybe that's why these All-Star games are treated as if they were exhibition games. But in the long run, it loses its competitiveness which is the main reason sports exist: for the competitiveness. PRESTON OLSON/UVU REVIEW Sammie Jensen's game winning shot propelled the Wolverines to victory. Jensen's double-double helps UVU secure road victory over UTPA By Matthew Baiamonte Sports Writer Twitter @baiamontematt Sammie Jensen continues to add accolades to an already storied career at UVU. This time it wasn't a career milestone but a single shot that could be the difference in lifting the Wolverines to a postseason tournament. With only seven seconds remaining, the Wolverines called Jensen's number to help lift them to victory over University of Texas Pan-American by one, 51-50. "I was really happy with the way the girls responded to a deficit late in the game," said Head Coach Cathy Nixon. "We fought back and found ways to battle back despite a lot of things not going in our favor. We had a real steady belief that we were going to win and I'm just excited for Sammie being able to make the play at the end." There were five different lead changes in the final minute, the last of which was Jensen's gamewinning bucket. It was the finish'rig touch to another great game. he finished with 21 points and 21 ebounds. She was happy that this ame ended differently then the ne last year in Edinburg. "I remember last year and how t ended up in an offensive charge," ensen said. "So I knew exactly hat they wanted. I tried to avoid people and get to the rim." With the second win of the year over the Broncs, all the Wolverines must do now is beat Houston Baptist at home and Chicago State on the road, something that will be difficult considering the Wolverines lack of success on the road this year. Although they struggled early in the season, they have found ways to win two of their last four road games. "I think we are just use to how the entire process goes," Jensen said. "Now we know what we have to get done and how to be focused." One of the many challenges UVU faces on the road is inconsistent officiating. "They say players get home court but I don't think we get home court here," Jensen said. "Refs are just different in different states. California is more physical than here. When you go to California you just gotta know that the game is going to be more physical and they are not going to call anything." The Wolverines seem to have adjusted, and they are three wins away from finishing at 500 on the season. Three more wins would also mean that the great career Jensen has had would continue. "I know that it's almost over." Jensen said. "I'm just gonna keep doing what I'm doing, and when it's over it's over." The Wolverines play Chicago State, Cal State Bakersfied and Houston Baptist to finish the season. They have a 2-1 record versus those teams, with the loss coming on the road to Bakersfield. The final home game for the Wolverines is March 2 against Houston Baptist.
