Show LETTER FROM THE EDITOR I LOVE THE SPRING Everything about it. Sunshine. Green grass. Tulips. The scent of blossoms and barbequed burgers wafting through the air. The Valley just seems more vibrant in the springtime. More alive. More full of possibility. It's a season that exudes newness. It affirms fresh starts and upholds blank slates. It's a beautiful thing. Our issue this week attempts to underscore a few facets of springtime. If you feel rejuvenated by the great outdoors, our cover story is a great survey of hiking trails that crawl throughout the mountains encircling our Valley. If you feel invigorated by spending time with loved ones, an unlikely spot in the heart of downtown Provo is sure to help create some holiday memories. And if music refreshes you, there are two stories that deal with the unique power of music to help us learn more about ourselves. Maybe I've just got a delusional case of spring fever, but I can't remember the last time I was so excited for Summer to roll in. I hope these articles will help the excitement to sink in even deeper. WHO WE ARE The V magazine is a new project being funded by Utah Valley University. The purpose of these pages is to highlight the vibrancy of the arts in the valley, affirm the attractiveness of the community, expand the scope of its members and provide a forum of discussion for the unique diversity of thought within this mountain home. The publication is about people—how we interact with each other and how we interact with the valley. By highlighting individuals in the community, focusing on their unique talents and contributions, we hope to knit the community more tightly together. The primary goal of this publication is to become an adhesive— binding the people in the valley to the things that make it beautiful. To make this bond possible, we strongly encourage community involvement and submissions. Opinions, observations, short stories, sketches, poetry, paintings and photographs are all welcome. This publication is as much yours as it is ours. IF YOU COULD ONLY HAVE ONE ITEM FOR AN ALL DAY HIKE, WHAT WOULD IT BE? A BOTTLE OF WINE, TOTALLY.
