When Walter Fitch went there from Marquette county, after successful handling of the Cham-- ; ploa mine, he Inaugurated a ' new form of direction in that ha lived on the job. He didnt set up housekeeping in Salt Lake, where there was' more enjoyment than eould be found about the average mining loeation, ibut ha went right to the mine, he ttd hs family, and at once bdlgan the task of making a mine of Chief on such foundation as there was to build upon. And it wasnt all smooth sailing at the outset, as is the usual experience at such, pluees. There was much to be done thut required hard work and mining skill. As the property was explored and developed it gave evidence of the values its friends had predicted, and Mr. Fitch, then began a systematic addition of territory to the original claims until finally he accumulated enough to suit his needs, which will provide: room for mining for very many' jeers. A very happy development: was that of a much higher price ofi silver, and this came at a time when the mine had been opened to inch! on extent that they could take vantage of the rise in the price ofi the metal. Having given the property his per-- , sonal attention for many years, dur-- i ing which time he was ably assisted by his son.
