Volleyball and wrestling athletes claim Wolverine Achievement Athletes of Year By Kira Terry Sports Editor For the second consecutive year, volleyball and wrestling athletes were named Athletes of the Year at the Wolverine Achievement Awards, held on April 7. Volleyball player Kayli Doxey and wrestler Flint Ray were awarded the honors. "The female athlete of the year award is given to the individual student who has demonstrated exceptional qualities of athletic skill, sportsmanship, teamwork, determination and has brought added recognition to the UVU athletic program," announced Roger Woolstenhulme, President of Wolverine Club, prior to presenting the award. During her senior year, Doxey led the volleyball team in kills with 422, which also put her second in the Great West Conference. Helping her team to finish with a 2111 overall record and 9-3 in conference play, Doxey was named to the GWC First Team. As a lady Wolverine in four years of play, Doxey racked up 1,600 kills and is the current all-time kills leader. Sports Editor Playing them for the second time this season, the Wolverines gave a home crowd quite the show, beating the Utes 12-4 last Tuesday. "I was really proud of what they did. We worked pretty hard at some certain things yesterday and we're real detail-specific and they really made some big adjustments to it," said Coach Eric Madsen. "I was real pleased with that. Obviously we want to win, but that's what I was hoping for was to see guys play a little better baseball. We still have a long ways to go with that, but I was definitely pleased with how they went about it." Earlier this season, the Utes got the big win, 15-3, over the Wolverines, but last Tuesday was all about the Wolverines on their home diamond. The Wolverines got things start- For all those UVU students or faculty who may only attend one sporting event during their time as a Wolverine, this Saturday's should be that event. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and UVU Athletics will be hosting Breakfast at the Ballpark on April 23 from 10:30-11:45 a.m. at Brent Brown Ballpark. Adults can purchase breakfast for five dollars per person and four dollars for children under 12. All proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association in Clay Anderson's name, who passed away due to heart complications earlier this year. On Thursday, Jan. 20, Anderson was playing basketball at an LDS stake center when he collapsed with a massive heart attack.
