Show Wolverines finish 12th in ReBath Snowman Getaway Utah Valley finished its first tournament of the 2010 spring golf season in 12th place at the ReBath Snowman Getaway at Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course. Noah Cook was the top finisher for the Wolverines, finishing in 48th place after a final round 79. Dane Christensen tied for 52nd and had UVU's low round of the tournament, a 74, on Tuesday. Host Washington State won the team title by seven Utah Valley (acr rules Las Vegas shots over Missouri while UMKCs Brett Iliff took home medalist honors, fin.ishing two shots better than a pair oT golfers. The Wolverines shot 306-321-308 in the three rounds and were four strokes behind Gonzaga for 1 lth place overall and 19 in front of Bradley. Utah Valley's next tournament will be March 11-12 at the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon, Ore. WESLIE GRAHAM Sports writer The Utah Valley University lacrosse team successfully dominated the MCLA Vegas Full House tournament in Las Vegas Feb. 19-20. After three games the Wolverines emerged number , one with an accumulative score of 53-29. Utah Valley played Western Washington in their first game of the season. The end of the first half brought a score of 9-6 with UVU being down three points. "The first half of the game was a learning experience," stated coach Kevin Perkins. "The team was learning to play again." After adjustments were made the team was able finish the game with a victorious score of 15-10. "Everything hap- Wyatt Ray wins final 2009-10 WWC wrestler of the week award Utah Valley 141-pound redshirt freshman Wyatt Ray (Roy, Utah/Roy H.S.) has been named the Western Wrestling Conference's Wrestler of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday. Ray picked up a huge win for the Wolverines last week in UVU's 25-10 victory over Northern Coiorado in Greeley.'He defeated the reigning WWC Wrestler of the Week, Northern Colorado's Kenny Hashimoto, and earned his first dual victory of the season. Hashimoto is ranked No. 12 intheNCAARPIandNo. 21 in the most recent NCAA Coaches' Panel list. Ray took the early 2-0 lead over Hashimoto as he scored a pened as expected," said Perkins. Ne\t tin team played Cal State Fullerton, which Perkins claimed was a great opportunity for the 19 freshmen on the team to get up to speed. They won with a final score of 16-10. The Championship game was played against Western Oregon. By this time the team was meshing well and playing perfectly. There was no competition as the Wolverines remained tournament leaders in an ending score of 22-9. According to Claudio Pacchiega, a senior defensive player, Utah Valley was by far the most in-shape team at the tournament. "Perkins made sure of that during practices," said Pacchiega. Wolverine wrestlers quick takedown. Hashimoto then tied the score early in the second at twoapiece. Ray picked up an escape point in the third and a takedown to go up 5-2. He then held on to spoil Hashimoto's senior night as he beat him by deci sion,5-4. continue to C m i S e WESLIE GRAHAM Sports writer The Wolverine wrestling team took a victory of 25-10 on February 17, this time at Northern Colorado. Utah Valley;s 125-pound Ben Kjar was able to defeat the Bear's Tony Mustari in a close call resulting 6-5. Wyatt Ray, a freshmen weighing 141 pounds lead a take down against Northern Colorado's Kenny Hashimoto 5-4. Justin Morril dominated the Bear's Justin Gonzales in a match ending at 7-1. This gave Utah Valley a lead of 9-6. Jeb Clark, Brad Darrington, Monte Schmalhaus and Josh Wood all had similar victories throughout the event and aided in defeating the Bears on their own territory. The Utah Valley grapplers will next compete in the WWC Championships March 6 in South Dakota.
