Dreamworks But maybe Wii Fit can help out with that L JONATHAN POOLE Life writer r Let's face it: For some people, more is more. We all know some big guy that looks as cuddly as a teddy bear, but take away that excess baggage and all of a sudden he seems more grizzly than plush. The same is true for the ladies. A little curve goes a long way and besides, it's not like Sir .Mix-A-Lot didn't know what he was rapping about. Unfortunately, for myself, the inverse is true. Due to reasons beyond my control, I don't wear excess weight very well. For example, my wife is seven months pregnant. Now, you know how when a guy's wife is pregnant and he tells you that, "I'm having a baby!", someone always comes back with, "You're having a baby?", as if that joke were the pinnacle of wit? Yeah, people don't even do that to me. They just eye me nervously* and try to avoid eye contac t:. Normally, that wot iPd be enough to convince imost people to lake imme diate and drastic dietary r neasures. However, I \\ Tts a drama kid in high school and thus have a high tolerance for social disre j^ard. But the real shocker <t:ame a few days ago when, in a fit of reckless apathy to ward my "Most Cheeseburgers in an Hour" record,, I stepped on the bathroom scale. We all have a breaking [joint; mine is 199.5 pounds. Now. that may not seem like much to some, I :>ut if you were 5'9", lacke> d' any muscle whatsoever and were weighing in at a :; velte (and borderline attractive) 160 just three years ago, half a pound shy of 2IO0 is a big deal. So being the decisive, humanitarian reporter that I am, I quickly devised a plan that included video games and a way to share my experience with you. The plan? Cut caloric intake and exercise using Wii Fit. The goal? Lose 30 pounds. The timetable? The end of the current semester. Once a month I'll run an update detailing the exercises I've participated in: the ones that are fun, the ones that work and the progress that I've made toward my goal. On a weekly basis I'll be posting results and observations on my blog, worstreviewever.blogspot. com, for those that wish to follow along. Can Wii Fit pull its weight as an exercise program, or is it just an expensive toy? Stay tuned. PENNBADGllEY SEAN ASTIN Lord ot the /Tings THE GREATEST VICTORIES ARH BORN IN THE HEART Ricky Gervais plays the unwilling protagonist in Ghost Town. Pincus' apartment comes to life with dead people. Dreamworks In Ghost Town, Ricky Gervais is prompted by a dead man to break up widow Tea Leoni and her new boyfriend. Comedy is his sixth sense E:LUKEHICKMAN Life writer In the U.K., Ricky Gervais is a big deal. In the U.S., while not many may know his name, almost everyone is familiar with his creation. Gervais is the 47-year-old co-creator/writer and star of the hit BBC shows The Office, which spawned an American imitation with Steve Carell playing his part, and Extras, which HBO distributed domestically. Now in theaters, Gervais stars in his leading performance in the brilliant comedy Ghost Town, and he does a damn fine job. In Ghost Town, Gervais plays Dr. Pincus, a people-hating self-centered smug British dentist with a "Grinch heart." After dying for seven minutes and being revived during minor surgery, Pincus is now cursed with seeing needy dead people who all want him to do favors for their living families. The only thing Pincus hates more than people are dead people who won't leave him alone. Frank, a persuasive ghost played by Greg Kinnear, is promising Dreamworks Gervais and Kinnear make a great duo in Ghost Town. that if Pincus will help break up his ex-wife (Tea Leoni) and her current fiancee, then he'll get all the other ghosts to leave him alone -- an offer that Pincus can't deny. Ghost Town is a perfectly rich blend of Gervais' uncomfortable British awkwardness, mainstream American humor and even a little romantic comedy. Although Ghost Town may have a semi-formulaic sounding plot, with an extremely high count of laughs, excessive amounts of charm and delightfully established characters, it is a movie worthy for almost every audience. The only thing stopping Ghost Town from being appropriate for all audiences is that it falls into the category of "PG-13 movie to get away with two F-words." If you are a fan of Gervais, delightful and charming comedies, dead people or non-stop laughter, then you must see Ghost Town as soon as possible. It truly is a movie well-worth seeing. Unfortunately, it has not been well advertised, but word of mouth should make this little movie go a long way. Festival Cinemas jo mssn 0PHHH6 EIXEHW Wait for it to come to the dollar theater!!
