IRANIAN MOVIE SHOWING • IrvU"s Cinema Studies program, along with the International Cinema, will he showing the award-winning Iranian film "Persepolis" on Aug. 2S from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in LI 120, Dr. Stephen Gibson, who teaches in the UVU English &. Literature Department, will be presenting an introduction lo the film. A group discussion is expected to follow the showing. "Persepolis" is a 2007 animated film based on Marjanc Satrapi's autobiographical graphic novel of the same name. The story follows a young girl as she comes of age against the backdrop of the Iranian Revolution, which goes horribly wrong with Islamic fundamentalists taking power and creating a new theocratic tyranny. Clark Rustand: Golfer for life • Hanna Hooge Hopkinson News writer Clark Rustand is a new face at UVU, at least as a golfing coach. He is our hero for the week. Here is what he had to say: . What is your position at UVU? A position is director KMyof golf. I am over the men s and women's golf teams. close to golf and pursue a career in it if possible. I was preparing to try my hand at playing starting on the Canadian Tour when this job became available. Having played here at UVSC back in '98 to'99 and-01 to'02,1 thought I might have a chance at the position because many of the same people were still in the athletic department. (UVU) was my best shot at starting a coaching position at the Division I level. Where did you get your start? How long have you been here? 1 have been here about a year and a half. I was hired in March of 2007. What made you want to coach golf? I really wanted to stay got my start in collegiate athletics here at Utah Valley back when it was still a junior college. I was an All-American my freshman year, and voted one of the top five players my sophomore year. I then transferred to BYU and fin- ished my collegiate career there and received a bachelor degree in psychology. What do you feel has been your greatest success while at UVU? I don't feel like I have achieved much since I have been here at Utah Valley, but then again I am still really new. I feel my end goals will be something to boast about when we reach them, but we're still in the early stages of program development. This year will be a good year though. We will be young on both teams: seven freshman on the men's, and three freshman and four sophomores on the women's team. Besides golfing, what do you do in your spare time? UV EXPERIENCE • To learn about ihe different sen-ices available on UVU campus, visit the courtyard, where booths will be set up for students to learn how to get involved with different departments and clubs. Booths will lie up Aug. 27-29. National iNews Hang out with my wife and 3 month old baby . girl, Elliott. That takes up a lot of my time, which I thoroughly enjoy. I like all sports and try to stay active: hiking, biking, basketball, Frisbee golf — of course hanging out with my family in Arizona. DEMOCRATIC NOMINATIONS ° A deal has been made between Sen. Banick Ohama and Sen. Hillan Clinion that will allow Clinton's name to be placed in nomination at next week's Democratic nominating convention. Sprague observed a suspicious male near the Chevron located at 1200 S. Geneva Rd. late at night after the business had closed for the night. After a brief investigation, it was determined (he 23-yearold male suspect had two warrants for his arrest. The suspect was arrested and booked into Utah County Jail. August 10 • WARRANT SERVICE • Officer Lkldiard observed two suspicious males while on aniline patrol of the Geneva Building. Upon further investigation, it was determined that one of the male suspects had an outstanding warrant. The 44-year-old male suspect was arrested and booked into Utah Counts Jail. August 12 • 12-YEAR-OLD RUNAWAY • 12-year-old runaway approached Officer N. Smith and asked for the time. Due to the late hour, Officer Smith inquired ;is to why the juvenile was out on his own. The juvenile staled he had run away from a foster home in Kearns. Officer Smith was able u> contact the caseworker and the juvenile was turned over to the caseworker's care. |
