Well, sometimes they do make 'em like they used to. And Leatherheads is one of 'em. In Leatherheads, George Clooney not only returns to directing but also stars as Jimmy "Dodge" Connelly, the 1925 team captain for the Duluth, Minnesota Bulldogs, a failing professional football team in the era when only college ball was respected. Upon notice of their team being cancelled, Dodge reaches for the only chance he's got to keep his team alive ~ hiring the most popular young college player, the iconic WWI hero Carter Rutherford (Jim from TV's The Office). The only thing getting in the way of their success is a love triangle with a two-faced reporter (Renee Zellweger). Leatherheads is not only set around the time of those old classic movies that everyone loves, but it is shot, written and acted out as if it was original in that time. The acting is classy and stylish. The humorous dialogue is fast, yet subtle. And the characters truly capture the spirit of the time. Men will love Leatherheads for it's comedic, historicfootball driven plot. Women will enjoy it for the charming romantic aspect and the two leading men. All around, LEtherheads is the fun, made-for-anyone-and-everyone movie this spring has been lacking. Sometimes, that can cure the pain those movies bring. But even then, it might not make them worth it. Nitn's Island is a kid's tale about a widower qua biological scientist (300's Gerard Butler) who decides to raise his imaginative daughter Nim {Little Miss Sunshine's Abigail Breslin)1 on1 a secret tropical island. In order to keep this paradise to themselves, they refuse to allow anyone in the outside world to know exactly where they live. Instead of living in the trees like that one Swiss Family, they have modern commodities like food, power and Internet access. With all of the wildlife on the island, they don't even lack friends. Things change, though, when a storm strands the dad at sea and daughter at home, and both must do whatever it takes to survive. Dad must fix the boat and Nim must protect the island when others come to take it over (sounds a bit like Lost so far). Nim seeks the help of her fictitious literary hero Alex Grover, and a case of mistaken identity brings the book's female author, Alexandria Grover (Jodie Foster), to the rescue. Nim's Island will only entertain those who watch children's movies on a daily basis. For everyone else, it will only drive you nuts. Every once in while, a horror movie comes'afdhg'that looks like it might actually be a good'one.'Onerj'times, this hope is false.
