Show B8 MONDAY, JANUARY 14, 2007 Sports THE COLLEGE TIMES RUGBY from B6 for another spring season it's tough to find a team that wi 11 be better prepared come tournament time. Utah Valley will head down to St. George to participate in the Red Ro«:k Tournament before taking on Boise State at the end of February. The Wolverines will also face some of the best competition in the nation as they play BYU and Utah. "You won't play anybody better than them,'* said Brown. Without a football team and with the hockey season drawing to an end as rugby begins Utah Valley fans looking for a contact sport to support won't have to look far. The Wolverines will look to improve on last season and make a run for the division II national championship. "Our club has tremendous heart," said Brown. "And when it comes down to it; we want it more." OAJVVONKT tvv ^ ' mm • M".V I\V; '. "* V", MEN'S BASKETBALL from B6 points in overtime to the Wolverines six. It was a game Utah Valley controlled until the final few seconds of regulation. In the low scoring, defensive game the Wolverines had six assists to 19 turnovers. The inconsistent play was getting started. "We are a marked team," Hunsaker said. "We have been a team of substance so teams come after us." Coach Dick Hunsker talked about this schedule being tough because of the many games against midmajor schools but Utah Valley will have opportunities to play independents in most of the remaining games, perhaps a chance to play more consistent. Of the team's final nine games, six are at home. "I don't know if its [the schedule) fair to the kids with the expectations we have," Hunsaker said. COLUMN from B6 won a road game for five straight. This must be put into perspective, though. In Utah Valley's fourth year the expectations are this high already, that's a good thing. Allowing Denver to shoot over 60 percent is not. Beating tough teams like Seton Hall at home is good. Allowing Denver to put 101 points on the board is not. There's been so much good for this team this season it would be nice to see that on the road but it just hasn't happened. Playing other Independents the remainder of the schedule will only remind us that this team is way out of its league compared to other Independent teams. Conference affiliation can't come soon enough, then who knows how high expectations will rise with NCAA tournament possibilities. Road wins will have to come for this team to be considered a tournament contender.
