Show life TUESDAY • JULY 25 ^2006 A7 Cheap Eats Try something new: Sushi at Demae Melodie Navalta Life Writer Courtesy photo/www.ecranelarge.com Kate Hudson, Matt Dillon and OwenWilson play You, Me and Depree Owen Wilson: Homewrecker Jason Pyles Life Writer You, Me and Dupree is funny if you're an Owen Wilson fan. He makes lots of money by playing the same role he usually plays-himself. The secret to the movie's success was two casting choices: Owen Wilson and Michael Douglas. The latter has such a commanding screen presence that when he's on the screen, we feel tense. When Wilson shows up, we relax and laugh. Alternating these two actors is that classic horror flick trick where comedy and fear trade punching the audience. Carl (Matt Dillon) is getting married. His reckless, irresponsible besj friend, Dupree (Wilson) is his best man. Soon after Carl's marriage to Molly (Kate Hudson), the free-spirited Dupree needs a place to crash, but it's only for a couple days... a week at the most. And so it begins... The newlyweds struggle to maintain marital bliss with a guy whose social ignorance is bliss - but only for him. A movie like this is fragile. The joke scenes are in the moment, so you have to be there, as they say. It's not the kind of movie where you can recount it back to your friends. You, Me and Dupree is the kind of movie, however, that you can see with your friends or on a date. But I would warn that its crude, Dave Eaton tells all From EATON-A6 ifornia to New York. Later this month we're going up to Canada, then we'll be back in California again in August. CT: You're known for performing in living rooms. Why do you prefer playing house shows to other venues? DE: The thing about a house show is you can shy away from charging people admission. I always want as many people to come as possible. I also like the ambiance of a house; I like how casual it is. CT: Do you have a particular goal for your music? DE: The goal is to get the music out to as many people as possible without compromising the integrity of the art. I play what I want to play, and if they like it, they like it. CT: You play two shows per month, one in Salt Lake and one in Utah Valley, but does your band play anywhere outside of Utah?* DE: We've done some small-scale stuff from Cal- CT: Why did you choose to go the independent music route? DE: Right now, I just want to be in control of my music. But perhaps in the future, if I feel like we've made enough progress, then maybe I'd be willing to sign with somebody-like a small, independent label. CT: You seem really firm about being an independent, grass-roots musician. Why? DE: Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "If a man can write a better book, preach a better sermon, or build a better mouse-trap than his neighbor, though he build his house in the woods, the world will make a beaten path to his door." I just really believe that. Find out more about Dave Eaton, his upcoming shows and his new CD at www.daveeaton.blogspot.com. The Format's New Album From DOG • A5 typical band that you would hear on the radio because they have a lot of originality that is not in today's mainstream music. Just to help you imagine the uniqueness of this band, there are church bells in the song "Ocean's." It also has that almost eighty's-like guitar riffs that you almost feel weird about loving so much. If you have never heard The Format before then you are missing out on a fantastic band. July 27th at US ANA is 311, August 2 MXPX at Saltair and of course to remind everyone again, Death Cab for Cutie at the McKay Events Center on August 8th. The Format will also be playing at the In The Venue on August 23rd. If you have any information on local bands email me at megra34@hotmail.com. Until then, keep Light a fire sexual humor gets fairly explicit for a PG-13 rating. There is a smaller character in the movie that is said to be a Mormon. Evidently, she has charity and chastity mixed up because she "imparts of herself freely unto every man." I still have to recommend it as a good rental. Every once in a while a comedy will surprise me and actually be kind of funny. You, Me and Dupree is one of those happy circumstances. Have you ever heard of a little Japanese restaurant located on Center Street in Provo called Demae? I hadn't until a few weeks ago. A friend took me there to eat sushi and it was delicious! Granted, the portions were a bit small and pricey. To solve that, you should go on Tuesdays because that's when they have great deals on their sushi. I think a lot of people know that, too. I went to eat there the next week and it was so crowded it seemed like a Friday or Saturday night. My advice? Go during Iunchtime or get there right after it opens up after the lunch break at 5 p.m. so you're not waiting with the crowd. Now, I know a lot of people don't like sushi here in Utah because they think they'll be eating raw fish. But you don't have to order something that has raw fish in it. There are avocado rolls, cucumber rolls, California rolls and more, and they are just as delicious! "I feel healthy when I eat there," said an anonymous UVSC student. "It fills me up,too." I personally loved the atmosphere! They have cute decorations around the restaurant and I didn't mind that Caucasians were serving me Japanese food and that new age music was playing. It took a while to get our order. When the check came, they had put the wrong price on two of the items. I'm not going to try and make excuses because I've only eaten there one time. But it's a good option for vegetarians, people who enjoy seafood, Asian food or just want to try something different.
