Show life MONDAY • MAY 15 •2006 A5 Hickory Kist: A favorite spot for college kids From HICKORY KIST. A4 Vegor Pedersen/NetXNews . . for the quality of food. With the UPostltUp Card (similar to the Starving Student Card), you can get a free half sandwich at Hickory Kist Deli. The sandwiches are large and they fill you up. It's a build-yourown-sandwich type of place so you get exactly what you want. I wouldn't recommend their salads... I've had better at Wendy's. For desserts, they have peanut butter bars, strawberry cheesecake, rice crispy treats, and more. I enjoy eating here because I feel like I'm eating healthy food. It's not your typical greasy fast-food joint, but it's a place that Mom would approve of...I've actually taken my mom here when she's visited from out-ofstate and she loves it too! When asked why students should eat here, employee Cody Griffiths commented, "Because we have the best sandwiches, homemade bread, fresh meat, fresh veggies, and we have fudge." In addition to the good food, the deli is usually pretty quick in getting you your order and you don't feel like you're being rushed to get through the line. The overall cleanliness is quite clean. It has a homey-crafty feel to the place and the atmosphere is fun because there are uplifting and funny quotes written all over the wall at the Provo store that you can read as you're waiting for your food. I would highly recommend eating here. , It's wedding season around the valley, and the expense list can add up quickly. Save a little cash on the location by reserving a park for a traction of rhe cost. The Paul Ream Park is a beautiful, inexpensive location for your special day. Picking the spot to tie the knot Shantelle Jones Life Writer It's that time of year again. Summer semester is just starting and many students are already bored. To alleviate that boredom here is a new series of articles called "The Greatest." They will feature under-appreciated and previously unknown sources of entertainment, education and life strategy. This week, in the name of springtime, I present; The Greatest Place to Get Married. It's May, and that means wedding season is in full swing. If you are still in the middle of planning a wed: ding, pay attention. A lot of unnecessary money is drained from the pockets of brides and their family due to frustration and a lack of options. Brides spend a lot of time trying to select the perfect venue to hold their wedding. They also spend a lot of time wondering why every place in the valley seems ridiculously over-priced. Rules and restrictions about the catering and floral arrangements make many of the local reception centers unappealing, especially to the do-it-yourself bride. If Grandma isn't allowed to make the wedding cake, and Aunt Ruth isn't allowed to arrange the flowers, feelings may be hurt and wallets may be dented. So how do you avoid overpaying for a wedding reception, and allow yourself the freedom to make all the decisions? The solution, at least during the fair weather months, is the local Parks and Recreation Department. Utah County is blessed in that our local city planners have prioritized the building and beautification of dozens of city parks. One particularly beautiful park is the Wilderness Paul Ream Park in Provo. Paul Ream Park is a historical landmark, a duck reserve (a lovely pond with several ducks and their ducklings) and one of the more secluded parks in the area. It features a white gazebo situated next to the Provo River, and an oldfashioned bridge is the official entrance to the park. Placed on the back of the property is the large pavilion, which seats about 150 people. Tall trees surround the area providing shade and isolating the park. The quiet rush of the river and fluttering of wind through the trees provide an ambient setting for your special day. The vivid green foliage and sweeping river views also offer perfect backdrops for pictures. While the scenery is beautiful, the price is spectacular. For just $70, you can rent the large pavilion for the entire day and night. There is a lev- el area where you can place a rented dance floor, with a large field for more tables and chairs. Power is provided, and the pavilion is well lit. Compared to the $1000$4000 price tag placed on local reception halls, this is a great bargain. Also unknown to many is that the parks in Provo canyon are also managed by Provo City Parks. For more information on Provo Parks and Recreation, call 8526600.
