Why does this happen? Well at least we can take heart in knowing that even the so-called "experts" even get it all wrong more often than not. With so much on the line during the tournament and with so little time to prepare for the next game, it is easy to see how come tournament time the playing field is evened out. Making anyone (Illinois, North Carolina and Wake Forest) ripe for an upset at the hands of an unheralded school that most people have never heard of (Valparaiso, Santa Clara or Richmond). Almost every year, there is a Weber State or Gonzaga that makes a surprising run to the Elite Eight or the Sweet Sixteen and surprises us all with their desire and heart. And now that teams can get into the tournament by winning their conference's tournament, anyone (yes even BYU) can get into the NCAA tournament. With all of these unknowns, it is easy to see why someone who knows nothing about sports can do so well filling out their brackets. So this year, I have decided to let my wife fill out my bracket. I figure that she has just as good of a chance at it as I do and probably better luck. For those of you that want a bracket to fill out, we have provided one for you on page B7. As you will notice, it is empty. The reason is twofold. First of all, the brackets were not ready at press time. And secondly, it will allow you to redo it as many times as you please. Well, good luck. We're all going to need it. Landon Smith Sports Writer For Gabrielle Smart, head coach of the Utah Valley State soccer team, the spring soccer schedule is a great time for her team to gain valuable experience and develop their skills for the fall schedule, when the games really count. But that doesn't mean they are not going to compete when the whistle blows and the games begin. The Utah Valley State soccer team opened their spring schedule by winning two out of three games at the BYU indoor tournament. The Wolverines lost a close battle to the University of Utah 0-1, and then beat Dixie State 2-1 and Weber State 1-0. •'For us to open up and be as organized as we were that early in the spring I was really impressed," coach Smart said. The team competed in the Utah State Indoor tournament last weekend where the team was spilt up into two teams of seven to compete against squads from Weber State, Dixie State, Southern Utah, and host Utah State. The team came away with wins against the Weber State • v <:'>:•&&&*',- >S^»W»w««iww^ '-,*&&&•$ » # $ * :>?r; • ! ^ •.•,V 1 * > -> 1 « I ^ V The start of a rivalry: GEICO.
