Like the last half hour at the night club, people are tired and are leaving, but the beats try to keep strong. It's a satisfying, if not mainstream, way to end. The bottom line is "Outside the Skyline" is a house alburn, combined with a highly experimental mix of several themes and styles. This is a loop album at its greatest, meaning in each song the themes are repeated over and over again, on top of a simple, yet complex, dance beat. I would compare this to Daft Punk — if you took out the aggressive leads and put more funky jazz into the mix; Zoot Woman or Cut Copy — if you took out the variation and the '80s feel; and maybe MSTRKRFT or VNV Nation. McConkie, who spent a great amount of her upbringing in North Africa and Libya, said she loves planning for these trips. This year the plan is to take students to Jordan and Israel sometime next Spring. "There are so many things we do to give the students the best experience possible," she said. "We make a point to show the faculty and students that they belong." After a day of scheduling, helping students, helping faculty, planning trips, setting up classes, making phone calls, working with other departments and beyond, McConkie usually leaves well after 5 or 6 p.m. She is the first to come in and the last to leave. It is a lot of hard work, she said, but definitely feels it is worth the while. "I love what I do," McConkie said. "This is an exciting place to work. I love being here because I truly feel like I can contribute and be of great service to these people.
