Show XheUtaji Summer Movies Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (PG-13) -B+ From page 4 romantic comedy is funny, but its predictable plot line keeps it on an average level. -Reviewed by Casey T. Allen The 40 Year Old Virgin (PC-13) - A "Daily Show" alumnus Steve Carre! and venerated "Freaks and Geeks" scribe Judd Apatow weave a tapestry or raucous humor and charming pragmatism in the summer's most unforeseen comedic triumph. Carrel stars as the film's principle protagonist — a kind-hearted introvert who has forsaken any future attempts at losing his virginity after a lifetime of ill-fa ted efforts. Carrel's glaring innocence is brilliantly augmented by an uproarious supporting cast, which individually illustrates the trappings of obsession, disloyalty and perversion in an intimate relationship. This character-centric depth, however, may be difficult to spot on the first viewing of a film brimming with sexual situations gone awry. -Reviewed by Mack Perry Red Eye (PG-13) - ASuspense aficionado Wes Craven's latest foray into the realm of jaw-dropping thrills unites him with the terrifyingly proficient Cillian Murphy and the increasingly capable Rachel McAdams. Murphy plays a vicious killer-for-hire (jack Ripner) under the convincing guise of a passenger with a harmless attraction to McAdams' disturbed hotel trustee (Lisa Reisert). Threatening to kill Lisa's father unless she utilizes her position at the Lux Atlantic Hotel to place the deputy secretary of Homeland Security in harm's way, Jack discovers that his seemingly helpless victim may be the only person with the ability to thwart his audacious assassination of a politician and his family. A riveting departure from most contemporary attempts at a decent theatrical thrill-ride, "Red Eye" is saturated with an infectious intensity that permeates throughout the feature until the film's momentum halts the instant that the flight referred to in the title does. -Reviewed by Mack Perry A great film all around and as the final part of the epic series, even better. In the film, Sith did what many fans feared it wouldn't be able to do by connecting the two trilogies. We are shown how Anakin Skywalker made the final descent from the whiney brat we hate to one to the greatest villains: Darth Vader. Gone are some of the largest complaints of Episodes I and II. No characters designed solely for kids, no lame puns in the middle of an emotional battle and no major plot holes. Also the PG-13 rating allowed for darker, grittier storytelling. Mix in the epic battles, majestic backdrops and beautifully choreographed light saber duels and trie result is a sci-fi experience that fans will be watching for years to come. The movie is not perfect, though. The dialogue between Anakin and Padme is weak, some of the action sequences are hard to follow and it seems like in Lucas' mind the only way to transition between two scenes is with a rotating wipe, Despite these weaknesses, it is an allaround great, fun movie. -Reviewed by Steve Shiney Batman Begins (PG-13) - A In a genre of entertainment in which men can fly, spider bites give you ability to shoot webs and every day people are born with strange and deadly new powers, "Batman Begins" stands alone as the most believable comic book movie ever. Batman also offers a very detailed and realistic account of why Bruce Wayne became the vigilante he did, from the death of his parents to when Gordon (at that point merely a lieutenant) first lit up the bat symbol. The overall feel of the movie, especially the action sequences, remains very true to the comic book. Christian Bale's portrayal of the Dark Knight was more than enough to make you forget he ever once led a strike of newspaper boys. Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman and especially Michael Caine provide a strong cast of sup- Summer Movies see page 9 We're not doctors, but we can fix your depression.
