Show KERFUFFLE SHINES DESPITE THE RE ON U OF U PURCHASES vendors not included. Certain restrictions apply. Third-party BY BERNIE GARCIA /STAFF WRITER his year's Grand Kerfuffle was unlike any I have ever experienced. What set this one apart was the country theme and, of course, the pounding rain that diminished the expected 2,000-plus attendance. But that didn't dampen the spirits of those who showed up last Friday evening. First on the ticket was Erin Alvey O'Sullivan, most known for her hit "Tomahawk Love," which gained national notoriety by featuring Atlanta Braves great Chipper Jones in the music video. She opened strongly for the duo Haley and Michaels. Shannon Haley and Ryan Michaels are California kids who ended up connecting in the country music mecca of Nashville, Tenn. They brought boundless energy and beautiful harmonies to the stage. With legendary venues like the famed Los Angeles Roxy Theatre under their belt, they are the duo to watch this year in the country music scene. While the rain poured, I enjoyed the hospitality of ASUU and the Natural High oxygen bar. Despite the weather, there was a rambunctious crowd that patiently awaited American Idol winner Scotty McCreery. When he took the stage, he wasted no time with staple hits, such as "Water Tower Town" and "Feelin' It." Halfway through the performance, the band was forced to put away the electronic equipment because of the rain. After the 20-minute delay, McCreery returned with an all-acoustic set. The most memorable part of the show was his spot-on covers of old-school country legends like Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues" and Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places." My favorite was Elvis Presley's "That's All Right," which McCreery performed to near-perfection while giving it a unique North Carolina twist. All in all, I realized that no matter what artists ASUU chooses, the Grand Kerfuffle is a concert students should not miss. T 11014 ma, Problem: You can't get the courses you need at your own school.
