Show Monday, April 14, 2014 DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE maw FOOTBALL Continued from page 5 do. He finished 9-of-12 for ii6 yards and three touchdowns. On special teams, kicker Andy Phillips had another strong day, connecting on field goal attempts of 41 and 59 yards. After the longer bomb, the sophomore celebrated by doing a backflip and was promptly penalized. "He was warming up before practice and he hit one from 6o," Whittingham said. "He was about a half a yard ahead of that spot [in the scrimmage]. It was a clock situation and there was no alternative, so we let him take a shot and he drilled it. Not sure about the backflip. Though it is pretty impressive, we do not want much of that going on." An inconsistent part of the offense throughout camp has been the running game. Although Bubba Poole currently sits atop the depth chart at running back, others have been putting pressure on him. Redshirt freshman Troy McCormick was the bright spot in the run game Saturday with 134 yards on just five carries. His day included a 6oyard scamper for a touchdown. "[McCormick] has always been fast," Whittingham said. "When he got to the open field he did some good things. Still got a lot of belief in Devontae Booker and his upside and Poole played for us a lot last year and he is a much better player now than he was last season." Spring camp will conclude this Saturday with the Red-White game at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
