Of course, I was thinking to myself, "I am missing this game, I am missing that game." At the end of the weekend, though, I had survived. I found out the scores, and I somehow didn't get struck dead (even though the second I got service, I immediately checked the scores for the weekend). Watching and paying attention to sports is not a bad thing. It's a billion-dollar industry that has entertainment that simply cannot be replaced by anything else. But maybe it's time for us to take a step back and realize some of the more important issues in our lives. Focus on school, family, friends or anything else that will have a lasting benefit. I will always watch sports and bleed for my teams, but I think I will pay more attention to the rest of my life a little bit more from now on. g.adams@chronicle.utah.edu 38 someone you Satan's doing 24 Turf 26 Diva's delivery so Glimpsed Hooch container 52 Style of T-shirt 28 Any "Seinfeld" showing, now 62 Park Colo. 40 Spheres 45 " 48 Full horoscopes available online: www.dailyutahchronicle/horoscopes Gemini (May 21-June 21) So many people seek you out that you easily could be overwhelmed by all of the requests and invitations. It's just that sports fans devote so much of their time to watching sports and memorizing statistics that seemingly more important issues are often put on the backburner. All sports fans are guilty of this, myself included. I like to think that I keep up with all the current events happening in our country and the world, and I consider myself well-educated. Sometimes, though, I seem a little lost. In my Intro to News Writing class, we always discuss hot news topics that we could potentially write about. People start to raise their hands and shout out topics, some of which I've heard about and some I haven't. But why is it that people devote so much of their time to watching sports? I mean, think about it. A lot of people have busy lives, yet on every Saturday and Sunday, crazed fans decide to take a break from the world and sit down in front of their TV to watch some football. That tradition is not just confined to football either — it's spread across the entire sporting world. The reason we do this is simple — it is entertaining. Now, I am not trying to stereotype sports fans here, because a lot — if not most — are very in tune with the world. But go to a local sports bar, pick a random group of guys and start asking them a few questions about what is going on in world news.
