Show DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE 10 Thursday, January 13, 2011 BASKETBALL continued from Page 6 Confidence still exists The 2011 season has been unkind to the Utes thus far, but the team has been able to find positives amid the losses. Utah's past two losses were against San Diego State and BYU, teams that are in the Top io of the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll. Playing teams of that caliber so early in the conference season has given Boylen a reason to be pleased with what he has seen out of the Utes. "You dream of playing those games," Boylen said. "We just played the sixth-rated and the 10-rated team in the country...I tell our guys, you just participated in two huge national games, and it's why you come to this level." Furthermore, Boylen said his team has the capability to beat the high-end programs in the Mountain West. "(The losses) had nothing to do with the sixth-rated or the 10-rated team," he said. "We beat ourselves." Utes look to turn tide against Cowboys Utah's next shot at victory is Saturday against Wyoming. Utah will travel to face a Cowboy team that is 8-8 on the season, with all eight victories coming from the Arena Auditorium in Laramie. Not only have the Cowboys been a solid home team this season, but the Utes will also have to combat the thin air at 7,165foot Laramie. "When I first came up here, I thought I had asthma," Will Clyburn said. "I can just imagine when we get (to Laramie)." j.bullinger@chronicle.utah.edu WOMEN continued from Page 6 scored seven unanswered to claim a 4o-33 lead. Utah broke the streak with a pair of free throws from Plouffe, but the Cougar offense didn't allow the Utes to make any headway until Plouffe's 3-point play brought them back to within five. However, Utah's run was short-lived, as BYU's Haley Hall caught fire and hit three 3s in a short stretch to give the Cougars their first double-digit lead of the evening. From there, the Utes were never able to get back into it, eventually falling by the i8-point margin. For the game, the Utes were held to 36.7 percent shooting and 12 points under their season average. Badon admitted after the game that BYU's defense confused the youthful Utes. "Any press (defense) is confusing because you have to react off how they defend you," Badon said. "With a young team, a freshman isn't going to go everywhere you need them to go." Plouffe led the Utes with 20 points to go along with II rebounds for her sixth career double-double, and Badon added 17 points and five assists. The Cougars were led by Hall's 16 points. The team next plays on Saturday when it welcomes Wyoming to the Huntsman Center for a 3 p.m. tipoff. bubba@chronicle.utah.edu °IEST US= Doodle in class? reveoeSI: Put your pen to work.
