Show Wednesday, September 8, 2010 THE DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE 3 Discussion focuses on eating well Connor McCormick STAFF WRITER Eating healthy can be hard, and that's why PEAK Health and Fitness, a division of the College of Health, is offering a discussion on maintaining a healthy and affordable diet while in college. For sic), the discussion will of- fer students tips on how to shop for nutritious foods, as well as tips on food preparation. Kary Woodruff, registered dietitian and director of nutrition services with PEAK Health, will lead the discussion and said the emphasis will be on saving money. "We'll talk about what eating well means, and then we'll talk about how to do that on a budget," she said. Woodruff's inspiration for this discussion came from friends and students who complain about feeling worse after eating a steady diet of unhealthy foods, such as pizza and ramen. "We'll focus on designing a meal plan to fit your needs as well as your wallet," she said. Another focus will be preparing and storing food in a way that increases freshness and keeps nutritional value. Buying seasonally and knowing which foods retain their nutritional value is a key part of eating healthily, Woodruff said. The discussion will be held Thursday at HPER North, Room 226, and will go from 5:3o p.m. to 6:3o p.m. For students unable to attend the discussion, there are additional ways to learn how to eat healthily. "There are a lot of good books and resources on eating locally," Woodruff said. Some resources include POLICE REPORT Fight breaks out after game Three people got into a fight Thursday after the Utah versus Pittsburgh football game. People were rolling around on the ground in a scuffle, gathering the attention of U Police who broke up the fight. Alcohol was detected, but the people were not legally drunk, said detective Pat Wilkinson of the Salt Lake City Police Department. The incident occurred near 400 South and 1400 East, near Rice-Eccles Stadium. No one was hurt and no charges were filed, Wilkinson said.
