Last year, U professor Marci Butterfield received the national Educator of the Year Award from the American Woman's Society of Certified with the protesters and doesn't support animal testing, but this is not the place or time to be protesting the matter. "It just would have been more effective had it been done in a more appropriate way—it was not a good mix with the good music and vibes around," Maple said. The protesters brought with them a "cute little dog," said Amy Wilde, Public Accountants. "Her vision, dedication and ability to motivate have raised the accounting department at the U of U to unprecedented levels of excellence," the AWSCPA said in a statement about the award. Those examples bring national attention to their work at a later date, but nothing is certain, Hutson said. There would be a pane of glass between Allgier and his bride at the jail, allowing only for a brief exchange of vows, not rings or a kiss. The sheriff's office has also granted the wornan permission to wear a simple wedding dress, but not to have a bouquet or take any pictures. Allgier would wear his yellow jail jumpsuit, and his hands and legs would be shackled. The date of Allgier and his fiancee's canceled wedding held a special significance to the heavily tattooed neo-Nazi. It's the same day as Adolf Hitler's birthday, April 20. Allgier's trial, in which he faces five other felonies besides the murder charges, isn't likely to start until next year. m.mcfall@ chronicle.utah.edu a sophomore in mass communication. "It was like they were trying to make people feel bad," she said. The protesting did not take away from anyone's cause, but it was loud and ineffective, Funston said. "At least they got their word out," she said. j.bennett@ chronicle.utah.edu at the U and that of their colleagues—such as Marlene Plumlee's unique international financial accounting class, one of the few in the country—which snowballs the positive recognition and jump in the rankings, Eining said. Besting the U's undergraduate program this year Wednesday, April 21, 2010 UNICEF between their cultures, Dickerson said. "Recognizing that we are different is the first and most important step to cultural competence," he said. More than 8o,000 refugees come to the United States each year, and 5,000 are sent specifically to Utah, where different organizations, including the International Rescue Committee and local Catholic churches, help them settle. However, they only stay with these organizations for about six weeks, just enough time for them to get an apartment, an orientation and connected with some relief services. Everything else is up to the state and the refugees. Refugees often bring children with them—or are children themselves—and they all should have health care so they can go to school uninterrupted. This was the solution that the panel and the students came up with. "The big issues, at least for me coming from UNICEF, is that it is about children," Wride said. "The issues that we talked about today certainly affect children, and probably more acutely because they are less capable to deal with issues themselves. It is not just about the adults—it's not just about refugees in this abstract sense. There is an element that specifically revolves around children, and it requires something like pediatric care—something that I think probably gets overlooked." The goal was to unite policy, personal and clinical perspectives in an arena where students could interact with the people with those perspectives, said Adrian Wride, president of UNICEF Red. Students who attended the discussion had the opportunity to pose questions to the panel about global health. "I thought it was really good," said Chris Rees, a second-year medical student. "It was good to have diverse people from diverse backgrounds come to talk to us about something that we don't really think about." Robles emphasized the need to address children's physical and mental health. "Education is critical for integration, but people need to be healthy," Robles said. "The number one reason children miss school is for toothaches," which makes dental care critical. The panel said making sure children are healthy is critical, and in order to achieve that, children need to have the ability to receive health care and feel comfortable in the doctor's office. "It is becoming more and more difficult to keep up on the practices and beliefs of each demographic," Dickerson said. "Cultural competence actually comes from within." When physicians know their patients' culture, it is much easier to accommodate the differences in the medium-sized category was the University of Florida and the University of Iowa. Both schools also beat the U's graduate program, as did the University of Arizona and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. m.mcfall@ chronicle.utah.edu org. r.isbell@chronicle.utah.edu Lwitier 1 iecn u ut 1 u ty Lvvem nialtweeted tweetwa I ker RT JedK twittertweet Px1AZIti rita4Icatiwr :weet a little haruerspeak twitter need more tweets? mothertwucker twittertweet reed more tweets? ltk twitter twidiot. nn spaea rnaltweeted h twidiot twia I twidiot ear on the tweetttlilstt twalker ma ltweeted ieed more tweets? t :w In c twi :we vA k twditer A /I ++ reed more t ets. nothertwycker :we tIemania hea d on ;peak twitter j r e tw twidiot • ets? diot widiot twidiot r - ii-weeted - ee d of malt eted k t itter speak twitter weet a iittle harderspeak twitter geed more tweets? mothertw cker twittertweet tweet e speak twitter h maltweeted • actwidiot widiotwidiot rd o t tweet eetyv_ KerRT kr twittertw etraw, cstnerit L?icaraer weet a litt hspea twitter - wed more twee d iothertwuc e?rtwittert reed mor wi lot e idiot peak twitter naltweeted naltweetgd seard n the tweets !kerma eed more tw ets? :wee lemaniacm pptmothertwu W weet th The average cost of a DUI in Utah is about $7000.
