On top of both the men and the women teams setting new records in the 8oo-meter freestyle relays on Thursday, Jennifer FredsaU set a new record in the ioo fly with a time of 54.07 seconds on Friday. On Saturday, the women's 400 free relay team set a new school record by swimming the event in a time of 3:22.48. The records helped the women finish third in the championships overall. "(The women's swim) team did fantastic this weekend," head coach Greg Winslow said. "The women were able to sneak up on Wyoming on the last day to finish third, which was a good accomplishment." The men's team finished in last place, failing to finish the season with a single victory. The UNLV men's team won their fourth consecutive MWC Championship, and - the BYU women's team won their seventy championship in nine years. Next up for U swimming will be qualifying races to see if any members of the team can make it the NCAA Championships on March 20. Forgive the U rugby club for looking ahead to next week's match against archrival and No. 5 BYU. Technically, there was a game on Saturday against Weber State, but with the number of U starters standing on the sidelines and looking on in the freezing rain at Sugarhouse Park, one would be hard-pressed to take it seriously. The Scrummin' Utes (6-2) sat starters Jake Anderson, Cam Kiser, Andrew Jewkes and Chance Fivas. Starters Nate Herrscher and Mike Harman, recently recovered from injuries, also sat out to be fresher for this weekend's showdown. "We wanted to give some of our other players some more time and also run some new plays we've been working on in practice," Anderson said. Scott Cowley and Rob Pearson benefited from the extra time, and Utah's new plays paid off as each scored a pair of tries, diet Blasucci added another touchdown of his own. The No. 6 Utes will practice three times this week before heading to Provo on Saturday. Anderson said the team will also be attending the Utah men's basketball game on Tuesday night against Colorado State. "We got 55 tickets so we could support coach (Jim) Boylen because he came and spoke to our team," Anderson said.
