Show CHIEFS NEW PUMPS READY FOR BUSINESS water is giving little or no trouble at this time but more extensive work below the water has been planned while the finishing touches are now being put upon the splendid new pumping equipment at the pro perty ot of the chief cons mining company it is hardly likely that the pumps will be used to any great ex tent for the present tor for the reason that the small flow of water already developed below the 1800 level Is giving but little trouble most of it being lost in the loose formation at af ter it Is lifted to the main level the pumping plant will of course be put through the usual limbering up pro cess and will be kept in condition for use when more extensive work be low the water level increases the flow of water some of the best ore that has ever been mined from the chief cons property Is now coming from the lowest workings of the mine and as this ore is followed to greater depth or developed by drifting or sloping operations the flow of W water a t will III naturally increase 0 yere to a V point 10 n t where pumping evl be necesse necessary alry air in the ins installation al lation of oty their new kumpt pumping ng plant I 1 a as I 1 in peany ai any other rl asan matters pe pertaining in 1 n tor t tj the opera tion of thein mine he e of officers of the chief C cons ns c company pany deviated from the be bea ien en path ath dividing their lift into thre i p parts ts and it Is thought that this wll wil eliminate I 1 much of the trouble h has attended the un watering of eer mines the water from the lo 10 loi e er r workings of the chief will be first pumped into a re to on the 1800 then lifted to another receiving reservoir on the 1200 then to the and thence to the surface the reservoirs are of vey very liberal size and an eight inch water column has been installed the present equipment being good for 2000 gallons of water per minute and everything being arranged in such a manner that additional units can be added in the event it Is ne cessare ces sary to take care of a larger flow these pumps are electrically driven and the electrical end of the installation has been taken care of in the most approved manner sone son e of the water from the mine will be utilized tor for fire protection and at the present time two large tanks are being erected one at the mine and the other on the side hill some distance above the residence of 0 manager walter fitch the wa ter will run from the shaft into the first tank from which point it will be pumped to the upper tank which will be large enough to properly protect all of the chief cons corn com pany s property from fere there be ing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of surface improvements |
