Show Tuesday, October 10,2006 10 ; RSL TIES DYNAMO, STILL HOPING FOR % PLAYOFFS •: •- continued from Page S a; Colorado loss against the same Dynamo team that played Saturday in Rice-Eccles Stadium will decide whether RSL will be playing for a playoff spot, or merely just for pride next Sunday against Chivas USA. The fact that RSL even has a chance to make it into the playoffs has a lot to do with how the team came out of the locker room in the second half. With the help of some brilliant saves by goal tender Scott Garlick, RSL was extremely lucky to only be down by one goal. : Although RSL finally kept an opponent off the Scoreboard in the opening 15 minutes for the first time in four matches, it didn't take Houston much longer to get its first and only goal of the match. Paul Dalglish scored his first goal of the season when he took a pass at the top right corner of the RSL penalty box, beating Jack Stewart before squeezing a near post shot past Garlick. After its first goal, Houston looked like it was going to pile a few more goals in before the half was over. The Dynamo took advantage of some extremely poor THE DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE half. In what has also been a common occurrence in the last half of the season, a new RSL team came to play in the second half. The team settled down in the second half, but really got its second wind when Ballouchy took Kevin Novak's spot in the 57th minute of the game. Immediately Ballouchy made his presence felt by winning RSL a ball deep in its own territory. Three minutes later, Ballouchy helped set up his own goal as he first dummied an Andy William pass to Jeff Cunningham, and then broke off to Cunningham's right and got open at the top right corner of the Dynamo box. Cunningham sharply sent the pass onto Ballouchy's foot, and the RSL midfielder crisply directed the ball into the back of the Dynamo net for his second goal of the season. The Ballouchy substitution also paid divedends in RSL's midfield play, as the team played with much better poise and control compared to the first half. With RSL still in the playoff hunt, all RSL eyes will be glued to the Houston/Colorado match at RSL defender Jack Stewart battles with Houston Dynamo Forward Brian Chtng in the end of the week. Punches were thrown late in the game after Fisher crosschecked a UVSC player into the boards. The altercation was broken up seconds later, and both players were sent to the penalty box for roughing. "I'm trying to get rid of that stuff," Wilkinson said. "That shouldn't be happening. Our goal is to have a second season, but you won't have a second season when you have that kind of stuff happening, so I yelled at the guys." If the players didn't know where Wilkinson stands on fighting, they know now. "I know the game; I know when someone does something to you, you want to hurt them back," Wilkinson said. "Unfortunately, this is the only sport that kind of allows that. It's unfortunate, but I think there'll be a day coming when that won't be allowed at all." Swenson isn't worried about what impact the loss and accompanying baggage will have on the Utes. "We're a team; we're going to stick together no matter what," he said. n.dicou@chronicle.utah.edu Bringing our Business Closer to fern ANCIENT MICROWORLDS FOSSILS UP CLOSE October 7 - December 31 Utah Museum of Natural History 400 South 700 East Receive a SONY DVD PLAYER when you open a checking account with direct deposit.
