EFE Bogota » Dos ases de la literatura en espatiol, los Premios Nobel y alguna vez amigos Gabriel Garcia Marquez y Mario Vargas Llosa, competiran en las librerias de toda Iberoamerica con obras de naturaleza muy diferente. No vengo a decir un discurso, una recopilaciOn de las piezas oratorias del escritor colombiano, que disfruta desde hace mas de dos decadas (1982) del premio que acaba de obtener el peruano, se adelantO unos dias a El suefio del celta, la novela de Vargas Llosa que Regard a las librerias a partir del 3 de noviembre. El nuevo libro de Garcia Marquez (Random House Mondadori) se puso a la yenta simultaneamente en America Latina y Espana, seis atios despues de la publicaciOn de su novela en primera persona Memoria de mis putas tristes. Para la primera ediciOn en America Latina se han impreso unos 160,000 ejemplares, segim dijeron fuentes de Random House Mondadori en Bogota. Garcia Marquez, que en marzo cumpliO 83 arios y reside en Mexico desde los arios 80, no acudiO a la presentaciOn de No vengo a decir un discurso en la capital mexicana. Su editor, Cristobal Pera, anunciO en ese acto que actualmente estan trabajando en una nueva antologia de la obra periodistica del autor de Cien afios de soledad, pero no dio muchas esperanzas a los admiradores de Garcia Marquez que esperan una obra de ficciOn. El escritor "no acaba de terminar" una novela titulada Nos vemos en agosto en la que lleva muchos atios trabajando, dijo Pera, director editorial de Random House Mondadori en Mexico, quien agregO: "Ojala que la pueda dar por concluida y entonces tendriamos una gran sorpresa". No vengo a dar un discur- so recoge 22 textos para ser leidos en voz alta que datan de 1944 a 2007, incluido el que escribiO para la ceremonia de entrega del Premio Nobel, titulado "La soledad de America Latina", y el del Premio ROmulo Gallegos en 1972. Comienza con un discurso que pronunciO a los 17 atios en una ceremonia de graduaciOn en el Liceo Nacional de Varones de Zipaquira y termina con el que dio cuando fue homenajeado en 2007 por sus 80 arios en Cartagena de Indias, en el marco del Congreso de la Lengua. Garcia Marquez, que ha participado en la elaboraciOn de este libro, habla en esas piezas de oratoria de temas relevantes para el, como la politica, la ecologia y la proliferaciOn nuclear, y tambien de sus amigos como Alvaro Mutis y el ya desaparecido Julio Cortazar. Otro de sus amigos fue Vargas Llosa hasta que en 1976 por motivos no completamente claros el peruano le propinO un putietazo al colombiano en Mexico y ante testigos. Desde entonces muchas veces se ha hablado de reconciliaciOn sin que se haya producido, o al menos sin que se haya sabido. Vargas Llosa, que esta "abrumado" por las innumerables muestras de carifio que ha recibido despues de ganar el Nobel, segim dijo en una entrevista con Efe, da un nuevo paso en la "exploraciOn del poder y sus estragos" en El suefio del celta (Alfaguara). En la novela, de la que se han impreso en principio 500,000 ejemplares, el autor de La casa verde, se centra en la vida del irlandes Roger Casement (18641916), consul britanico en el Congo Belga que se denunciO las atrocidades del regimen de Leopoldo II en el pais africano para escribir sobre la maldad y el nacionalismo. Vargas Llosa advierte de que en su nueva novela "hay mas imaginaciOn que historia", igual que sucedia, atiade, en La guerra del fin del mundo y La fiesta del chivo, lo cual no se espe- ra que importe mucho a sus numerosos lectores. A este duelo literario se sumara tambien en noviembre otro escritor latinoamericano de primera fila, el mexicano Carlos Fuentes, quien presentara Carolina Grau un libro de nueve cuentos ineditos "de corte fantastico" segim informaron a Efe de la editorial Alfaguara. Este titulo, que puede despistar segun reconoce la editorial, hace referencia al personaje que protagoniza uno de los relatos y que de una u otra forma esta presente o es nombrado en el resto. Para la editorial, estos cuentos son en cierto modo "historias del mundo al reves". El libro saldra a la yenta en coincidencia con la Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara, donde sera presentado por su autor, junto a una nueva ediciOn de su novela ilustrada de vampiros Wad. Fuentes, Premio Cervantes 1987 y cuyo nombre siempre suena en las listas de candidatos al Nobel, publicO su anterior obra, Ada en eden, este mismo atio. Se trata de una novela en la que el escritor, que cumplira 82 atios el 11 de noviembre, refleja la corrupciOn que hay en Mexico y la violencia que genera el narcotrafico, con una combinachin de ficciOn y crOnica periodistica, horror y humor. Aumento de nivel de mar destruira sitios arqueologicos EFE Washington » El aumen- to del nivel del mar debido al cambio climatic° causara en las prOximas decadas la perdida de miles de tesoros arqueolOgicos situados en zonas costeras de todo el mundo, segun un estudio cientifico que pide acciOn para salvarlos. El estudio, publicado en la revista estadounidense Journal of Coastal Conservation, es el resultado de la investigaciOn de los arque6logos Torben Rick, de la InstituciOn Smithsonian en Washington; Leslie Reeder, de la Universidad Metodista del Sur; y Jon Erlandson, de la Universidad de Oregon. EFE El aumento del nivel del mar destruira miles de sitios arqueologicos, segun un estudio. Los investigadores se basaron en el caso del canal de Santa Barbara, en California, para desarrollar, a partir de factores cuantificables como el cambio historic° en las lineas costeras, la inclinaciOn de la costa o la ac- thin de las olas, un modelo cientifico para medir la vulnerabilidad de los sitios arqueolOgicos. En el canal californiano, que acoge desde restos de grandes ciudades hasta pequetios fragmentos de con- chas milenarias, encontraron una pauta creciente de degradackin que ha aumentado en cada generaciOn. Sin embargo, concluyeron que la tasa de deterioro en este area que es en general mas baja que la que pueden sufrir otras costas mas abiertas o con menor inclinaciOn, como las costas del Atlantico o del Golfo de Mexico en Estados Unidos. A raiz de ese modelo, y ante la imposibilidad de salvar todos los lugares arqueolOgicos del mundo, los arqueOlogos pidieron que se desarrolle un indice de los sitios expuestos a un mayor riesgo, para llegar a "decisions informadas sobre como preservarlos". "Necesitamos encontrar formas de actuar. Al cuantificar la vulnerabilidad de los lugares con mas riesgo de destrucciOn, hemos dado un primer paso para mitigar la perdida de datos arqueolOgicos y del patrimonio cultural que contienen", dijeron los investigadores. Segun las conclusions que expusieron varias universidades en el Congreso Cientifico Internacional sobre Cambio Climatico de Copenhague en marzo, el nivel del mar podria subir hasta un metro para 2100, el doble de lo estimado en el ultimo informe mundial de la ONU. ciOn australiana demostr6 que la mala dieta del padre puede afectar la salud de su descendencia. Al menos, eso es lo que ocurre con los ratones alimentados con una comida rica en grasas y calorlas. El experimento es la primera demostraci6n directa de que un factor no genetic° se puede transmitir a su descendencia. Los cientificos de la Universidad de Nueva Gales, en Sidney, solo han demostrado esta transmisiOn de padres a hijas, aunque la autora principal, Margaret Morris, cree que el riesgo seria el mismo con hijos varones. Hasta ahora se sabia que los padres obesos o diabeticos tenian mas posibilidades de concebir hijos con una mayor predisposiciOn a engordar o con problemas para mantener a raya su glucosa. El equipo de la universidad alimento ratas macho con comida rica en grasa. Engordaron y empezaron a desarrollar una intolerancia a la glucosa. Sus problemas se transmitieron a sus crias hembras tras a pa rea rse con ratas sin problemas de sobrepeso y alimentadas con una dieta equilibrada. — El Universal Enamoramiento en menos de un segundo Un estudio publicado en el Journal of Sexual Medicine revela que las 12 zonas del cerebro que se ven involucradas en el proceso del enamoramiento reaccionan en medio segundo. En este instante las 12 areas mencionadas se encargan de liberar sustancias relacionadas con la satisfacci6n como la dopamina y la oxitocina, realizando procesos similares a los que experimentan los individuos cuando consumen drogas, mas de una manera mucho mas cornpleja, partiendo del hecho de que involucra mas zonas cerebrales que la ingesti6n de narcOticos. Los cientificos del estudio iniciaron la investigaciOn tomando como objetivo descubrir si los seres humanos nos enamoramos con el corazOn o el cerebro. Los resultados indican que las sensaciones que experimenta el ser humano como las palpitaciones del corazOn mas veloces y las Ilamadas "mariposas en el estomago" son consecuencias de los cambios que sufrimos cuando se activan las 12 zonas cerebrales. El estudio tambien afirma que existen diferentes reacciones cerebrales al amor apasionado a las que existen con los otros tipos de amor. — El Universal |
