Ahorros para hispano América nació hace dos años cuando Ahorros para América se enfocó en las necesidades del mercado latino para administrar sus finanzas y lograr un mayor rendimiento de sus recursos. rose Garr, coordinadora de Ahorros para América, explicó que esta unión está dirigida a fomentar la cultura del ahorro entre los latinos. “El objetivo es motivar a la gente latina a ahorrar dinero y acumular riqueza”, apuntó Garr. Para lograr ese objetivo se ha creado una serie de programas de motivación financiera apoyados de material informativo, clases y asesoría personalizada por un especialista. “En estudios que hemos realizado pudimos ver que el porcentaje de ahorros personales es negativo, es decir, que la gente está endeudada. Nos gustaría ver a nuestro país empezar a ahorrar de nuevo”, dijo Garr. Lara Ahora Utah El Departamento de Transporte de Utah (UDOT) lanzó una nueva campaña contra la basura con el objetivo de reducir la cantidad de desechos en las autopistas y el número de accidentes que éstos ocasionan. La campaña, titulada “La Basura Duele”, incluye comerciales por televisión y radio, marquesinas, un portal de Internet y otras formas de promoción. De acuerdo con John Njord, director ejecutivo de UDOT, “ésta es una de las primeras campañas en el país con un enfoque en objetos tales como escaleras, muebles y parrillas, que por no estar bien atados pueden desprenderse con facilidad”. Según el Departamento de Transporte de Utah, la cifra de accidentes ocasionados por objetos grandes de basura en las autopistas del país superan los 25 mil por año. Además se presentan anualmente más de 12 mil reportes de cargas perdidas en los condados más urbanos de Utah. En 1998, la alcaldesa de la ciudad de midvale JoAnn B. Seghini se vio impulsada a informar a la comunidad latina de los servicios públicos que se ofrecían, tales como la ubicación de clínicas comunitarias, cómo matricular a los niños en la escuela y los servicios médicos, legales y públicos que se pueden solicitar sin importar su estatus inmigratorio. con ese objetivo se creó comunidades Unidas. Al principio sólo era un grupo de personas que iban de puerta en puerta, informando de los servicios públicos. No obstante, al realizar su trabajo y darse cuenta de que la mayor necesidad del momento era el cuidado de la salud, el grupo se enfocó en esa área.
