Show a Li Canyon mnpertos Park & Ride to Access the deepest snow in the world by Creighton Hart Staff Writer Ski Area/UTA bus Park and Rides are part of a community transportation network along the wasatch front, especially in_ the Cotttonwood region and the southeast section of town. Currently several large collector parking lots are available to assist the skier or urban commuter in disembarking from the auto and utilizing public transporta- tion. This is just one compo- nent of an expanding transportation network. In 1989 the four cottonwood canyon ski areas, Brighton Solitude, Snowbird and Alta along with the (UDOT), Utah Department of Transportation and Utah > Transit Authority (UTA), and Salt Lake Government agreement identify County formed an to construct and potential park and ride sites. This agreement was based upon canyon’s respect for the ecosystem, water- shed management and pri- been taken. An a second major step is currently underway as phase II of the Park and ride program is being implemented during the next two to three years. This phase II plan is to develop 4 to 6 new park and ride collector lots in the Cottonwood Heights, Sandy and southeast to midvalley locations. The goal is to serve a minimum of 120-150 autos, and up to 400 autos. Once built these lots will act as Uta quent bus routes available to ski areas and urban sites. An exciting concept is to develop more walking and bicycle trails that will feed in to the UTA Skier lots, to diminish auto traffic and provide safe transportation alter- — natives. Trail sites under con- sideration include wasatch boulevard, The dimple dell area, and adjoining the to be laid out Old Mill Golf Course and Sports facility park.
