Show jamrs mrs priscilla J riter gave address to local red cross those ft ho attended the entertain ament ment at the biks elks lodge rooms in this city on oil wed afternoon went away avay with a much better under stall ling of the work which is be ing done by the red cross tion after listening to the excellent address addres of mrs priscilla J riter of bof bait balt I 1 lake ake who came here tor for the he express purpose ot of meeting with the ladies who have formed the local chapter the social affair held on wednesday vv ednes day was in the nature of a tea given in mrs riter s honor and for the double purpose of raising t f ands tor for the purchase of yarn from which sweaters and other articles of I 1 wearing apparel will be made tor for the men wh win are serving on the U 8 S i battleship utah the utah navy league has received permission to supply tl tle e men on the battleship named after our state with such ar j tides and here in eureka a branch of the league has been beell formed with mrs C C griggs as chairman la dies of the navy league and also the members of the newly organized chapter of the red cross joined in making the recent entertainment a success and it is quite evident that they succeeded beyond their most sanguine expectations the eloquent talk by the distin gulshen visitor fairly bristled with patriotism and cohered in a very thorough manner the objects and alms of an organization that is world wide in its influences and that has performed such noble work in times of great crises when the need is urgent and the measures for re lief must be prompt and adequate mrs airs J 11 Ale mcchrystal presided at the meeting and in addition to mrs riter s speech the program included a solo by miss helen shriver a se lection by a quartette composed of russell and udall and misses mary alary dark clark and adele griggs a solo by mrs P J bonner and a reading by harry J beane the ladles ladies who contributed toward the success of the tea were reception mrs I 1 F gose mrs john F P rowe mrs J E 0 connor mrs david mills mrs alex blight mrs P J fennell mrs C E hice rice mrs warren mcadams mrs C D garten mrs emma billings those who assisted in pouring were mrs J A hensel arg mrs C E hulsh mrs william stuart mrs L C doty mrs mark mcchrystal mrs W F er mrs L E pierce and mrs R L conyers while the young ladies who served were misses adele griggs helen clark anna coffey mary dark clark muriel sullivan helen er stella fields catherine doty hilda cummings and irene sullivan others who kindly assisted at the party were mrs J W embleton mrs ben thurmond and mrs pan nie tile fields the tea resulted lesul ted in the raising of 0 f a fund of about 40 and mrs grig griggs s as chairman of the navy league of or this city desires to expend extend the thanks of the organization to the elks lodge for the use of the lodge rooms and to the ladies of tintic gintic tor for their attendance and patronage mrs J H mcchrystal chairman of the local chapter of the red cross states that the work here Is receive ing the liberal endorsement that it deserves at this time the chapter has about members mrs me chrystal appreciates the efforts ot of miss maud fitch who has been ac tive in work of this nature and wh who 0 has turned over to the red cross or here the money which was subscribed by members of miss fitch s first aid class those who joined the first aid class will re ce cene e a receipt from the local chapter showing a paid up membership in the red cross and those who paid in 2 will be entitled to the red cross magazine for one year first aid class members are asked to notify either mrs mcchrystal or miss fitch in the event the receipts or the cop les ies of 0 the magazine do not reach them red cross membership cards are not available at this time but they will be distributed in the near future |
