Show editor of the reporter I 1 was at mammoth the other even ing and witnessed the splendid dem in on which they had there it did my heart good to see such a bunch of fine young men answering their country s call it la Is doubtful if there is another town in the state of the same size which will send such an excellent delegation of recruits but I 1 lie ile witnessing this splendid outburst of patriotism I 1 could not help but take note of a few things which seem to have escaped the at of the tile majority of 0 the people here in all of the young men who left mammoth this week eek to join the navy were native born as far as I 1 could determine and 1 I know many of them personally I 1 also know that in the mines of mam moth and also in the mines of eure ka there are several hundred young men who were born on the other side of the atlantic and some few hun dred of them are natives of Fri angland gland the greatest of tl ti e allied powers and the one vitally interested in the great conflict which la Is now raging in the e men are looked upon as hood citizens and as far as I 1 know nothing can be said against them but I 1 cannot help but be im pressed with the fact that while they have clamored for the advent of this country into the great european conflict not one of them has yet come forward and offered his ser vites even those who still have relatives in the british isles now sui rounded surrounded by the raisers kaisers rines are willing to remain here in perfect safety while the native born americans enlist for service JOHNSON |
