Show Page 6 The Ogden Valley News Volume XXIX Issue XII October 1, 2022 Announcements Obituaries Rita Briggs Manful April 23, 1926 ~ August 2, 2022 Our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and greatgrandmother Rita Rita Manful Briggs Manful passed away August 2, 2022 at the age of 96. She followed her husband Dwayne just seven months after he passed away. They were devoted to each during their 73 years of marriage, so it was not unexpected that Rita shortly followed him. They worked hard and played hard and set an example of how to live a rich and fulfilling life. Rita was born in Fairview, Utah April 23, 1926 to Charles Henry Briggs and Hannah Rebecca Anderson. She always felt fortunate to be the youngest of five children because she received so much attention. Rita married Dwayne E. Manful June 6, 1949. To this union was born two children, Ann and Rich. Rita graduated from San Pete High School then moved to Ogden. After she married, she worked at Utah Concrete Pipe that later became Oldcastle Concrete Products. She was a dedicated employee who retired as credit manager for the company. She developed a deep respect for the contractors while building lasting friendships. She had the uncanny ability to remain friends while still insisting they pay their bills on time. She loved people and could make a room light up with her smile. Rita was authentic. She always wanted to know the details of people’s lives. There were never any strangers when Rita was around. She has an especially strong influence on her two grandsons Eric and Hank. She liked to listen to them talk for hours. She Lynette Gladys (Morf) Shupe April 24, 1943 ~ September 10, 2022 Lynette Gladys Morf Shupe, 79, returned to her Heavenly home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s on September 10, 2022. Lynette Shupe Lynette was born on April 24, 1943, in Ogden, Utah daughter of Walter Arnold Morf and Gladys Doxey Morf. She was sealed to her sweetheart Roger Clair Shupe in the LDS Logan, Utah Temple August 30, 1963. They met at the LDS Institute of Religion and Lambda Delta Sigma Fraternity at Weber State College. They lived in Ogden for 37 years and North Ogden for 22 years. They have five children. She grew up in Ogden. She attended Mound Fort Elementary, Mound Fort Jr. High, and graduated from Ben Lomond High School. She continued her education and graduated from Weber State College with her Associates degree. She retired from Commercial Security/ KeyBank after 30 years working as an Operations Specialist. Her mom and dad taught her, by example, the love of gardening. She always had fun helping irrigate their gardens and grass wearing her galoshes. Her passion for gardening continued easily built a trusting relationship with her grandsons and other people. She always had kind things to say to people with genuine sincerity and concern. Rita started skiing in her mid-twenties when Ann and Rich started. She became an excellent skier. This became a family sport that was enjoyed together every weekend. She worked on several events in preparation for the 2002 Winter Olympics. She joined the others in the family by volunteering in hospitality for the events at Snowbasin. She would always go the extra mile to make people feel welcomed and valued. After she retired, Rita took up bicycling with the husband, Dwayne. She became a mileage junkie. She tracked all her biking miles and was always trying to get more. Later Rita and Dwayne rode a tandem bicycle and could be spotted daily in the western roads of Weber County. For the past few years, Rita suffered from Alzheimer’s. Even with Alzheimer’s, she had a cheerful attitude and a bright smile. She lived the last six months at Hidden Valley Care Center where the staff enjoyed her smile. They treated her so kindly and with respect and dignity. Even in her last days, she would tell another resident or a staff member that she liked their shoes or their hair. She is survived by her daughter Ann Miller and son Rich (Reeta); grandson, Eric (Caitlin); and great-granddaughter, Alice. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwayne; son-in-law, Alan Miller; grandson, Hank Manful; and four siblings. She loved the outdoors, going to the family cabin, fishing, camping, and going for walks. Many hours were spent outside watching her kids and grandkids play sports. She served in many positions in the LDS church including Stake RS President, Ward RS President, Young Womens, and Primary President. She served as a Guest Service Missionary at the SLC Temple Square for five years, the LDS Cannery for one year, and as an LDS Temple Worker for one year. Her love of the Gospel and serving was an example to all. She belonged to several sewing and book clubs with her old and new friends. Quilting was her creativity outlet for many years. She took great joy in giving her quilts to others. She was able to travel with Roger to many countries and loved cruising to Alaska. She is missed deeply by her family and friends. Lynette is survived by her husband, Roger; her five children, Kevin (Shelley) Shupe; Colleen (Scott) Shuman; Bryan Shupe; Julie (Dave) Bischoff; and Lei Anne (Tim) Price; and 18 grandkids and 15 great-grandkids. She is preceded in death by her mother and father. Services were held Friday, September 16, 2022 at the LDS North Ogden 24th Ward Chapel, 1150 E. 2600 N., North Ogden, Utah. Karen ThompsonHales-Kopinski November 24, 1936 - July 18, 2022 Karen Thompson Kopinski passed away July 18, 2022 at the age Karen Kopinski of 85. Karen was born November 24, 1936 in Ogden to Clarence and June Thompson. She attended South Ogden Junior High where she was voted 9th- grade class queen before graduating from Weber High School. Karen married Ronald Hales and together they had four boys, Mike, Steve, Mitch, and Bret Hales, settling in Washington Terrace. Although later divorced, she continued to raise her boys through the many trials and tribulations of their youth. Ruth Adams Iverson June 9, 1933 ~ September 7, 2022 Ruth Adams Iverson passed away from old age September 7, 2022, surrounded by family. Ruth Iverson She was 89 years old. She was cared for by her three loving children and one loving in-law. Ruth was born in Provo, Utah on June 9, 1933. She was the youngest daughter of Samuel Conrad and Delilah Booth Adams. She grew up with four sisters and her Brockbank cousins. Her childhood was filled with family, visiting family in Bunkerville, Nevada, and spending summers in Provo Canyon. She loved Provo 4th Ward where her testimony of Jesus Christ started. She attended Provo High School. Upon graduating she attended Brigham Young University, studying Elementary Education. She was a member of Val Norn. She spent her junior year at the University of Michigan. When school was out for the summer, she would work at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. She would reminisce about those seven summers with happiness and gratitude. She developed life-long friendships during those summers. Upon graduating from BYU, she secured a teaching position at Central Elementary School in Brigham City Utah. She taught 3rd grade for several years. This is where she met and married Verl Joseph Iverson. They had six children: Kay, Vern, Willy, Elsie, Rosie, and Monica. Together Verl and Ruth taught their children to love the Gospel, work hard, play hard, and most Sherri Lee Tatton October 28, 1962 ~ September 14, 2022 Sherri Lee Tatton, 59, left this earth September 14, 2022. She was born October 28, 1962 in Ogden, Utah to Nadiene (Finch) Cummins and Richard Alan Finch. She Sheri Tatton spent her early years living in Ogden and then in Plain City where she enjoyed riding horses in Jr, Posse and the animals she helped raise there. She moved to Riverdale in 1977 when her mom married Donald Cummins. Sherri had a passion for costumes and opened Costume Castle at a very young age, right after high school. After marring Bart Tatton in 1994, together they reopened a new store in Layton called Costume Castle and Crafts. She was well-known for helping schools and local theaters with their productions and events. She helped many others with costumes for holiday festivities and numerous events. She was on the Street Festival Committee in Ogden, organizing events for several years. She Later she married Will Kopinski and together they had a 5th son, Todd. Karen and Will loved the outdoors where they spent much of their time either hunting or fishing or at the Cutter Races. They also had a passion for quarter horses, owning both a racehorse and a cutter-race team. Karen could often be found on weekends cheering on the team of Kopinski & Butler to many first-place finishes. Karen and Will would later move to Idaho where they spent the next 20 years or so exploring Idaho, Montana, and beyond. Due to failing health, they moved back to Utah where they spent their remaining days with family. Karen is survived by her four sons, Mike Hales, Steve (Maggie) Hales, Mitch Hales, and Bret (Tina) Hales; two brothers, Val Thompson and Steve (Janet) Thompson; and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Karen is preceded in death by her loving husband, Will Kopinski; son Todd; granddaughter Kami Hales; and daughter-in-law Ronnie Hales. A celebration of Karen’s life was held at Aarons Mortuary, 496 24th St., Ogden. importantly serve and be kind to others. Ruth was in the Parent Teachers Association and held leadership positions on the state and local levels. She loved being involved in politics and participated in the Women Legislative Council. She also was an avid quilter, knitter, and reader. Ruth was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her church callings and assignments were varied and many. She filled them with enthusiasm and joy. Her favorite place was in the Primary. She also served in the Ogden Temple for many years. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Katherine Joyce Iverson DeWitt of Brigham City; Vern Quincy and Jill Iverson of Huntsville; Wilford Adams and Erin Iverson of Bear River City; Elsie and Stan Rowlan of Morgan; Roselee and Steve Hatch of Forrest, Virginia; and Monica and Tim Pryor of Twin Falls, Idaho. She is also survived by her sister Mary June Hamblin of Provo, Utah and twentyeight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Ruth married Verl Joseph Iverson May 29, 1957 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Verl tragically drowned August 20, 1993 at Willard Bay. Verl was the son of Joseph Wilford and Annie Gertrude Jensen Iverson. She is preceded in death by Verl Joseph Iverson; Kim Cloward Iverson, daughter-inlaw; Adam Iverson, grandson; and sisters Elsie, Connie, and Florence. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 17, 2022 in the Brigham City 10th Ward LDS Building, 500 S. 200 W. Interment will be in the Bear River City Cemetery. Services entrusted to Myers Mortuary of Brigham City. Sherri has children: Jesse Cummins, Jason Cummins, Kristina Hunter, Tyler Tatton,, and Darren Tatton. Sherri and Bart Tatton had many adventures together and traveled to Egypt, Canada, and Mexico among other places. She enjoyed many things: camping, hunting, fishing, time in the mountains, their various animals, and trips to see shows at Tuacahn in Southern Utah. Sherri is survived by her husband Bart Tatton; her children Jesse Cummins, Jason Cummins (Virginia), Kristina Hunter (Jacob), Tyler Tatton (Danielle), and Darren Tatton (Jourdon); 13 grandchildren; her dad, Donald H Cummins (Anita); her sisters Teresa Warth (Phillip) and Sandy McCray (Tim); and her brothers Jeff Cummins (Michelle), Brent Cummins (Lucy), Dennis Wallace (Dorothy), and Allen Wallace (Cindy). She was preceded in death by her mother, Nadiene Cummins. Funeral Services were held Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Leavitt’s Mortuary in Ogden, 836 36th St., followed by a graveside service in Huntsville.
